The Faith Divide

Why Al-Qaeda is Endorsing McCain

"Al Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming election."

So reads a website closely associated with Al-Qaeda, according to Nick Kristof in his Sunday New York Times column.

It's no surprise that Bin Laden and his henchman are watching the American election (any bets on the cable channel they prefer?). But their presidential pick probably raised some eyebrows. I spent a good part of my Sunday wondering why they chose McCain.

I dismissed the idea that Bin Laden actually wants the rendez-vous that McCain promises at the Gates of Hell. I think the terrorist is probably pretty scared of the old Navy fighter pilot in a mano-a-mano situation.

Joe Nye, a former Clinton Administration official, makes an important point in the article: "From their perspective, a continuation of Bush policies is good for recruiting."

But I think Kristof hits the nail right on the head when he compares McCain's position to other mistakes made in recent American history:

"During the cold war, the American ideological fear of communism led us to mistake every muddle-headed leftist for a Soviet pawn. Our myopia helped lead to catastrophe in Vietnam. In the same way today, an exaggerated fear of 'Islamofascism' elides a complex reality and leads us to overreact and damage our own interests."

Bin Laden has been an amazing failure in attracting Muslims to his call for an all-out war against the West. Almost no Muslims want that war, and even fewer are actually willing to fight in it.

So Al-Qaeda has gone to Plan B: create the illusion that more than a tiny handful of Muslims are engaged in this battle. That's one of the reasons that Al-Qaeda chooses respectable members of a society - engineers, doctors - to carry out attacks.

But illusions are only successful when the audience gets duped. Too many McCain supporters have bought the Al-Qaeda line.

Consider the Clarion Fund, who sent 28 million copies of a Muslim-hating film called Obsession to households in swing states in a clear attempt to influence the election in favor of McCain. I've written elsewhere about how this film has made people afraid of their Muslim neighbors

But even more importantly, it makes all of us less secure. Because as our suspicions are cast upon our law-abiding Muslim neighbors, genuine terrorists might slip through.

If Al-Qaeda really thinks a McCain administration would both boost real recruiting AND help advertise the illusion that all Muslims are the enemy, it's no wonder they are pulling for him.

INTERESTING PERSPECTIVE ON HINDU TERRORISM

Gujarat arrest exposes Modi’s Parivar problems

A host of SMSs made the rounds soon after the Ahmedabad serial blasts of July 26 which killed 57 people, mocking and abusing chief minister Narendra Modi for having failed to prevent them. A few even implied he had a hand in the blasts.

After three months of investigation the Gujarat police last week tracked down the alleged originator of the messages. It turned out to be Ashwin Patel, a joint secretary of the state Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Patel has been arrested and charged with sedition, defamation and inflaming communal passions.

“The Modi administration is clearly anti-Hindu,” responded Kaushik Mehta, state VHP general secretary. “It is not only
appeasing the minorities but also harassing Hindu activists now.”

Mehta declared the VHP would soon launch a statewide campaign to expose Modi's 'anti-Hindu' policies and practices.
The rift between Modi and the various organs of the Sangh parivar began when the former started distancing himself from their leaders and focused totally on projecting himself as a harbinger of development four years ago.

He made no effort to help the activists of the Sangh parivar who had been arrested for their role in the 2002 riots. Relations worsened further after Modi raised power tariff for farmers despite strong objection from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Bharatiya Kisan Sangh.

During the 2007 assembly election campaign, Modi completely ignored the VHP and its high profile international general secretary Pravin Togadia, whose support had been a key factor in his victory in the earlier 2002 elections. Yet Modi pulled off a thumping victory despite the VHP's shrill campaign opposing him.

BURNING BRIDES ALIVE CASE IN INDIA: SUCH ARE NOT JUST ISOLATED CASES. DEB CHATTERJI NEVER CONCEDES ANYTHING ABOUT THE ILLS OF HINDUISM

Pregnant woman set on fire

2 Nov 2008, 0445 hrs IST, Soumittra S Bose, TNN

NAGPUR: Bhaubeej turned out to be the last time Preeti Raikwar met her parents as she was found burnt under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ Mankapur residence on Friday morning.

Married in January earlier this year, four-month pregnant Preeti is fighting for life with almost 75% burn injuries. Police have arrested three, including her husband Rakesh Raikwar (26) and his mother Savitri (55) after registering an offence of attempting to murder, dowry harassment torture.

Preeti, who is being treated at Hope Hospital, in her statement before the executive magistrate has held Savitri, Rakesh, brother-in-law Roshan, sister-in-law Reena and Reena’s husband Nitin Raikwar responsible for the act.

Preeti’s parents, Nandkishore and Radha Gour, have alleged that their daughter was harassed and tortured for Rs 50,000 dowry by her in-laws. "Preeti came to meet her 11-year-old brother Shubham on Bhaubeej that too against her mother-in-law’s wish, who wanted her to attend to domestic chores," Nandkishore Gour, an employee with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, said.

"I was quite anxious about the fallout of her visit once she got back to her in-laws place," Gour added with tears in his eyes. The problem started when Preeti started using the washing machine to wash clothes and her mother-in-law insisted she did the job manually, senior police inspector Subhash Mundewarikor of Koradi police station informed. Preeti was taken to the terrace where she was set on fire, he added.

Police have seized a kerosene bottle allegedly used in the crime. Other evidences too have been collected by the police. Accused Rohan’s wife Uma Rakesh shifted Preeti to hospital after the incident.

Gour said, "The problems started only after a couple of months of marriage. Initially, there were routine fights which later turned into physical and mental torture. Later Preeti’s in-laws started demanding for Rs 50,000 to repay a loan borrowed for the construction of their home," Gour added. In fact my daughter had come back and wanted to study further and we too were in all out support to her," Gour said. In fact, Preeti had gone to some colleges trying to seek admission but her husband took her back home," the weeping father added.

Police sources said that Rakesh wanted to repay the loan of Rs 50,000 to accused Nitin Raikwar. While Rakesh, Savitri and Roshan have been arrested after the offence was registered, sister-in-law Reena and her husband Nitin Raikwar are yet to be put behind the bars.

Does ISF exist? Assam cops not sure

Even as the Assam Police arrested a person for allegedly sending an SMS, claiming that Islamic Security Force (Indian Mujahideen) had carried out the blasts, IG (Special Branch) Khagen Sarma said the police had doubts over the existence of the organisation.

Sarma told Hindustan Times that the SMS sent from Nazir Ahmed's mobile phone to a television channel could very well be a red herring. Or, he said, “The person who sent the SMS may not have any knowledge about the ISF. It could have been a coincidence of his thought and the name of a Jehadi outfit.”

Investigators find Sadhvi a tough nut

Investigators are finding Pragnya Singh Thakur alias Sadhvi Purnachetanand Giri, arrested by Maharashtra Police for her alleged involvement in the Malegaon blast case, a tough nut to crack. And they are blaming her expertise in meditation.

Powered by her meditation training, the 36-year-old priestess knows how to control her mind and body mechanisms, said sources. It was only after this training that Swami Avadheshanand Giri anointed Pragnya as Sadhvi at the Allahabad Kumbh Mela last year.

This has got the investigating agencies worried after subjecting her to polygraphic tests.

A polygraph or a lie detector measures and records several physiological responses like blood pressure, pulse, respiration and skin conductivity when a person is subjected to a series of questions.

It measures physiological changes caused by the sympathetic nervous system during questioning. These are different when people lie.

But Pragnya, sources said, has been practicing the meditation methods since years and can control her responses making it really tough to believe if the answers even under the polygraph can be believed.

In fact, sources added, investigating agencies could hardly get a breakthrough from the polygraph tests. This was one of the reasons why the investigators planned to subject Pragnya to narco-analysis at the Kalina Forensic Laboratory.

But there was no official confirmation that the narco-analysis was conducted successfully.

Anti Terrorist Squad officers including joint commissioner of police Hemant Karkare and additional commissioner of police Sukhwinder Singh did not take mobile phone calls.

Deb Chatterji knows that terrorism was invented by the Hindus when the Aryans from Asia Minor invaded India about 3,000 yrs ago. They massacred the local Dravidians and pushed them to the South where Tamil, Telgu-speaking, Malayalam speaking and Kanada speaking people live today.

The Aryan king Ashoka accepted Buddhism and spread Buddhism to even the Far East.

Following two centuries of Ashoka's death were extremely bad for the Buddhists in India. Buddhism was born in India and today 2 per cent of India's population are Buddhists.

When Malegaon bombings happened earlier in October, Hindu terrorists posted e-mail some Mujahedin group claiming responsibility. Now it has come out that Hindu terrorists are the culprits. Several Hindu terrorists were arrested in Indore, India.

It may come out that actually Hindu terrorists were responsible for Assam bombings.

Assam has a long history of violence. For several decades Naxalites, Nagas and other disgruntled groups have been implicated in chronic violence there.

Deb Chatterji represents Jan Sanghi upper caste interests.

Typical pan-Islamic mob mentality to defend the crimes of the Muslim radicals. In this case a group (Indian Mujahadeen) has claimed responsibility and not any Hindu right wing.

If this "conspiracy" theory goes on unchecked, then one can say that US Government itself and not Al-Qaeda committed the 9/11 and blamed it on Muslims. This notion is a favorite in many Muslim nations, though. And the NYT reported that many American Muslims do not believe that Al-Qaeda caused the 9/11.

So, that's the problem of having a swelling Muslim community inside any country, despite Colin Powell's endorsement of the community's existence inside USA.

There goes Deb Chatterji again. It is not impossible that there is a world wide conspiracy to commit terrorism by anti-Muslim groups and even some states to malign Muslim because they feel that would benefit their cause. A case in point is the recent arrest of BJP inspired Hindu terrorists in Indore, India. More and more Hindu terrorists are being arrested in the case of Malegaon bombings.

India's central government led by the Congress and other secular parties are not to be blamed here.

The Hindustan Times report (posted here earlier) is another case in point. An Army officer has been questioned by the police for sending text messages to a retired Army officer who has already been arrested in connection with the Malegaon bombings. This is unprecedented.

India's most overseas Hindus are known to support India's fanatic Hindu party BJP. THE BJP, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, known as VHP (World Hindu Congress),the Bajrang Dal (the monkey brigade) the Shiva Sena are all intertwined in a seamless web.

It is time for the Western governments to investigate the overseas Hindus who send money to BJP causes.

Let's test Eboo's fair mindedness again.

The growth of Muslim population in any country is a dangerous trend. It can result in unknown fears and the canon fodder will be innocent bystanders who are non-combatants. All this for securing the minority rights. The recent Assam blasts in India, a country which appears to be failing in controlling Islamic militants because of "angering the minority vote bank" before the impending Federal elections next year, was claimed to be a handiwork of home grown Islamic militants.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Islamic_outfit_says_it_set_off_Assam_blasts/articleshow/3659468.cms

Will, General Powell's endorsement of Muslims is no-taker. The General is somewhat clueless or knows that in USA such carnages shall not repeat. USA has more power to control/clamp down on sleeper cells of Islamic militants.

It is however very dangerous to allow growth of Muslims in a country.

First time in India: Police interrogate army officer

Based on text messages he allegedly sent, a lieutenant colonel of the Indian Army based is being questioned for his alleged links to suspects in the September 29 bomb blast in Malegaon that killed four.

Military Intelligence officials from the Lucknow-based Central Command interrogated Lt Col Srikant Prasad Purohit on Thursday, according to sources who declined to be identified since they are not authorised to speak to the media.

Purohit was learning a foreign language at the Army Education Corps in Pachmarhi, a Madhya Pradesh hill town. He is suspected of links with retired Army Major Ramesh Upadhyay, arrested on October 29 by the Maharashtra Police for alleged involvement in the Malegaon blast.

Army officials in Pachmarhi refused comment. Spokesperson for the Central Command in Lucknow, Dr Kismat Sagar, said: “We don’t have any information (on this) so far.”

Army Headquarters in Delhi said it would “continue to provide all assistance to the investigating agency as and when required”.

“While no formal application has been received from the police authorities, the Army HQ has decided to extend full cooperation and facilitate interaction of the officer with the investigating officials,” the release said.

OK, let's see if I censored again by this WaPo blogmaster Ebooo Patel. And my sole objective is to rake up controversial issues, rather pushing them under the carpet.

Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama is nothing but cool-play. Increase of adherents of Islam (Muslim) is always dangerous. UK is an example.

In India, recently dubbed as as the "blast country", there has been 13 coordinated bomb blasts in the city of Guwahati and with 67 people dead with 470 injured.

What caused it ? Refusal to accept the cause of Islamic terrorism. (Even Fareed Zakaria accepts its existence occassionally !) The Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, did turn a blind eye to the massive infiltration of the illegal Muslim immigrants froim neighboring Bangladesh. There was discontent amongst the ethnic Assamese, but it was ignored. The details of the culture clash or "faith divide" as Eboo Patel favors, that led to the present outburst, are available at the Times of India (ToI) link:

GOP's bogus and scare tactics to fool the stupids and illiterate Americans can be fulfilled by linking every cause vote for McCain. One wonders how any atheist gets anything of value from reading the works of Heschel:

from answers.com

"The element of time occupies an important place in Heschel's theology, since "Time is perpetual innovation, a synonym for continuous creation, " and human existence in time is communion with God and a reaction to the continuous action of God. From this concept of time, Heschel derived his theory of human freedom as "a spiritual event." According to Heschel, the individual learns about God not by reason and intellect, but through experience, divine revelation, and sacred deeds, all of which enable the individual to form a relationship - a "leap of action" rather than of faith - with God."

Your post, of course, is very wise, very true. As we fear and complain about theocracy and extremism we become more extremist and theocratic.

The ineffable, as you put it takes many forms, and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with organized religion. If you've ever walked into a science lab and scene a student who's been sleeping there to keep track of her experiment, if you've come in at just that moment when something, perhaps unpredicted happens, and seen the look of wonder in her eyes, you know what I mean.

You can see it sometimes when someone is writing or reading or looking up at the stars or thinking of someone they love.

These are varieties, as it were, of religious experience. The world is charged with grandeur...

It is people who divide themselves up into Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus etc, not the Creator of it all. Who are any of us to decide for the rest of the world how they should relate to the Creator or what the Creator wants of them. The vision of the peaceable kingdom will be realized when we all give up the need to be right and when we cease to be so arrogant as to think we have a corner on the market of what is true. If we stopped fighting and started to listen to each other with a heart of compassion we would never be able to do the things we do to one another in the name of our brand of religion.
That is not to take any thing away from what any of us believes about ultimate reality, only to say that our beliefs are just that and are not necessarily the last word on the subject. I am not interested in being hit over the head with anyone's literal interpretation of their particular take on the Bible, the Koran or whatever as if that is the only legitimate point of view when talking about what is ultimately mystery. I think when we get beneath the words to our experience of the ineffable, we will discover we have more in common than we ever imagined. A few great spiritual masters like Thomas Merton got it and spent the last years of his life in dialogue with the likes of the Dali Lama, Tich Nat Han and others, all the while remaining true to his monastic order.
Finally, I can only hope that we elect the president that has the most open minded perspective to other world cultures and be a true peacemaker.

The idea that Obsession (which I have worked on) somehow makes people afraid of their neighbors is worse than nonsense. It's also the opposite of what this film shows: that most Muslims are peaceful and do not support terroristic violence or jihadist ideology. And it is THESE people who are afraid of THEIR neighbors already. This film is ABOUT THEM.

Just because the movie deals with uncomfortable subjects is no reason to blame it for talking about things we might wish to pretend aren't there.

Al-Qaeda may hate America but they love the GOP's anti-intelligence campaign. Why? THEY BOTH RECRUIT THE IGNORANT IN THE SAME WAY - by illusion, misleading statements, demonizing, etc., etc., etc.

In a way Al-Qaeda respects the GOP. Sort of like a father figure to them in many respects. Just watch and compare and see what you think.

I think FDR also when to take action. I we had only paid attention to his warnings, we may have avoided Pearl Harbor.

Yea, I think we exagerated 9/11 a little. I hear radicals more or less thought of it as a practical joke on us. They didn't we mind losing 4 airplanes and 3 national icons. Oh yeah, and the 3000 weren't that important either.

Folks, believe what you want but the facts are clear. Truth is that Al-Qaeda has been very active around the world, like London or Spain, since 9/11. They probably would have struck again here but many plans have been stopped. They have attacked many times and they have told us they will do it again.

We all know that terrorists aren't on every corner but they are out there. Probably many more than we would like to think. It took 20 men to do 9/11, how many do you think are needed for the next attack. We need a president and congress that is willing to do everything in their power without compromising our constitution to our people to protect us from domestic and international terrorists. We were asleep too long thinking that it would never happen to us. Al-Qaeda is infamous for their patience and persistance, so we know it is not over.

We also know this war won't be won just by force, but it is a necessary component. Bush has said this war has no end in sight and our greatest weapon is democracy. These are true, but we also must kill the heart of the beast. Military power is still the best way to destroy the governmental and financial power behind these actions and ideas. We also must win the battle of the idea behind terrorism, showing it as evil.

I am not afraid now, nor have I been since a short while after 9/11. Now I understand that our government is facing the real issues. I understand that there will probably be another attack but at least we are prepared enough to prevent mass devatation. I am trusting God and my country to protect us.

Hey Eboo Patel ! I just submitted two posts and each time I see the note that my posts are being "held for approval by the blogowner" - which is you.

I understand that I am posting anti-Islamic arguments and views. I did not use any profanity or anything else. (IF there is, show me.) My posts do make Muslim readers uncomfortable/offended. That is precisely why I post. It is the 1st Amendment that allows a person to post offensive (but not necessarily profane/vulgar) views.

So, why are you or Washington Post censoring my posts ? Can you answer this question ? Have you already blacklisted me and my posts because they make Muslim readers uncomfortable ?

I have accussed with many names, and I chose to to ignore them. So, why don't you censor those who are also calling names ? Why censor posts which appear offensive but not profane or vulgar ? Why have such unconstitutional policies in the first place ?

Since terrorism's most effective weapon is the use of fear to paralyze and scare it's enemies, I would have to surmise that the worst thing to potentially happen to Al Qaeda et al would be an American policy towards terrorism that is based on thoughtful analysis and rationale thought as opposed to fear-mongering. For that basic reason alone Al Qaeda et al would probably prefer McCain/Palin in charge.

The comments posted in this thread about how Bush and McCain know how to fight evil are laughable at best. When are these people going to learn that you can never defeat ideas with brute force? If that were indeed possible we would have extinguished the threat by now.

So then, why have there been no other "spectacular" attacks on the US? Is it because Bush's policies have made us safer as they claim, or has the actual threat of terrorism been exaggerated to the point of being out of touch with reality? The answer may lie in the middle. I have no doubt that a new awareness in addition to the measures taken after 9/11 have made us much harder to hit than before that day. However, I don't believe for a second that there are terrorists on every corner just waiting to kill innocent Americans as we have been led to believe. If that were really true we would be seeing more attacks than we have.

I think American is way overdue for a rationale approach to this age old problem instead of pandering to American's worst fears. Seeing the terrorists for what they really are is more damaging to them then us giving them the larger than life status they have been enjoying since 2001. This special brand of fear and idiocy breeds bad policy and is what brought us to Iraq and parsing the defintion of torture. Remember what FDR said about fear....

Sure, radical Muslims are going to support McCain. I suppose they like a guy who is willing and able to fight terrorism.

All the indications I have is that most Muslims support Obama, even though he has distanced himself from them. There have been several radicals that support him. I'm sure Iran and other rogue nations like him as well since he wants to compromise with him.

I would suggest that this guy stop reading radical islamic websites first of all. Not sure what's up with that. I would also suggest he doesn't believe all he reads on the internet. No radical Muslims want either Bush or McCain as president. They both know how to fight evil.

M_MUTAAL00 suggests:
“Time for the Islamic reformation:

Islam cannot be reformed because the problem is more with its ideology than its practices.

“the reformers of Islam have failed and will continue to fail because they have the Quran and Sunnah against them. On one hand they claim Muhammad was a messenger of God and on the other they say let us not follow him. These are two opposing views. The reformers want to invent a new synthesis on false premises and that can't be done. That is why reforming Islam is not going to work.”

An Update on Our War on Terror and Aggression- continued:

Other elements of our War on Terror and Aggression:

1. Saddam, his sons and major henchmen have been deleted. Saddam's bravado about WMD was one of his major mistakes.

2. Iran is being been contained. (beside containing the Sunni-Shiite civil war in Baghdad, that is the main reason we are in Iraq. And yes, essential oil continues to flow from the region.)

3. Libya has become almost civil. Apparently this new reality from an Islamic country has upset OBL and his “crazies” as they recently threatened Libya. OBL sure is a disgrace to the world especially the Moslem world!!!

4. North Korea is still uncivil but is contained. With the opening up of rail traffic between North and South Korea after 50 years and with the assistance of the US Navy in retrieving NK ships and personnel hopefully a fresh sense of civility is afoot.

5. North Korea was taken of the terrorist country list recently.

6. Northern Ireland is finally at peace.

7. The Jews and Palestinians are being separated by walls. Hopefully the walls will follow the 1948 UN accords and the Annapolis Peace Conference is at least somewhat successful.

8. Bin Laden has been cornered under a rock in Western Pakistan since 9/11.

9. Fanatical Islam has basically been contained to the Middle East but a wall between India and Pakistan would be a plus for world peace. Ditto for a wall between Afghahistan and Pakistan.

10. Timothy McVeigh was executed. Terry Nichols will follow soon.

11. Eric Rudolph is spending three life terms in prison with no parole.

12. Jim Jones, David Koresh, Kaczynski, the "nuns" from Rwanda, and the KKK were all dealt with and either eliminated themselves or are being punished.

13. Islamic Sudan, Darfur and Somalia are still terror hot spots.

14. The terror and torture of Muslims in Bosnia, Kosovo and Kuwait were ended by the proper application of the military forces of the USA and her freedom-loving friends. Radovan Karadzic was finally captured on 7/23/08 and is charged with genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the law of war -- charges related to the 1992-1995 civil war that followed Bosnia-Herzegovina's secession from Yugoslavia.

15. And of course the bloody terror brought about the Japanese, Nazis and Communists was with great difficulty eliminated by the good guys.

Al-Qaida and Bin Ladin played Bush like a cheap fiddle, they know they can do the same with McCain.

They knew Bush's "cowboy" unilaterialism would isolate the USA and they knew Bush was so paranoid he would pass that on to the American population and react in ways that would be to their advantage in the long run.

From the Patriot act to the invasion of Iraq to Abu Ghraib to being so afraid of "Arabs" they would not recruit indigenous Arab and Farsi language specialists and cultural experts into the intelligence community.

There is only one Arab in the entire intelligence structure (CIA, DIA, NSA, FBI..etc.) even now at this late date!!! Despite the many hundreds of people of Central Asian and Middle Eastern decent, -all US citizens with expert qualifications that applied to help!

The bible says:

"If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peacably with all men" ( Romans 12:18).

"Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace" (James 3:18).

"They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks, nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore (Isaiah 2:4).

"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb...They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain" (Isaiah 11:6, 9).

Jesus Christ is the "Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6)...therefore "imitate Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1).

This was not an "Al Qaeda endorsement". It was just some discussion on an Al Qaeda-related Internet board. Take it with a grain of salt.

Why did these guys think that McCain would be better for their cause than Obama? Because McCain would keep our troops in Iraq. Like it or not, our extended stay in Iraq has been great for Al Qaeda recruitment. Not only that, but it's taken the focus off of the Afghanistan/Pakistan border, where they've had a chance to regroup. Obama would pull our troops out of Iraq and use them to pursue Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Give us a break!!! You use a website as an authority on Al Qaeda ?????

A much more meaningful discussion would be the observations of Islam by Sir Salman Rushdie in his book, "The Satanic Verses" e.g.

p. 376, paperback issue - for those 1 billion Muslims including Mr. Patel to read as they are forbidden to purchase or read said book:

"The faithful lived by lawlessness, but in those years Mahound - or should one say the Archangel Gibreel? - should one say Al-Lah? - became obsessed by law.

Amid the palm-trees of the oasis Gibreel appeared to the Prophet and found himself spouting rules, rules, rules, until the faithful could scarcely bear the prospect of any more revelation, Salman said, rules about every damn thing, if a man farts let him turn his face to the wind, a rule
about which hand to use for the purpose of cleaning one's behind.

It was as if no aspect of human existence was to be left unregulated, free. The revelation - the recitation- told the faithful how much to eat, how deeply they should sleep, and which sexual
positions had received divine sanction, so that they leamed that sodomy and the missionary position were approved of by the archangel, whereas the forbidden postures included all those in which the female was on top.

Gibreel further listed the permitted and forbidden subjects of conversation, and earmarked the parts of the body which could not be scratched no matter how unbearably they might itch. He vetoed the consumption of prawns, those bizarre other-worldly creatures which no member of the faithful had ever seen, and required animals to be killed slowly, by bleeding, so that by experiencing their deaths to the full they
might arrive at an understanding of the meaning of their lives, for it is only at the moment of death that living creatures understand
that life has been real, and not a sort of dream.

And Gibreel the archangel specified the manner in which a man should be buried, and how his property should be divided, so that Salman the Persian got to wondering what manner of God this was that soundedso much like a businessman.

This was when he had the idea that
destroyed his faith, because he recalled that of course Mahound himself had been a businessman, and a damned successful one at that, a person to whom organization and rules came naturally, so
how excessively convenient it was that he should have come up with such a very businesslike archangel, who handed down the management decisions of this highly corporate, if noncorporeal, God."

Here is an interesting paragraph from the Letters to the Editor page in the New York Times today:

"When Mr. Gaddo and Mr. McFarlane rehash “stay the course” arguments, however, they don’t note the long history of Middle Eastern occupation by white Europeans. The military occupation of Iraq has convinced many Middle Eastern Muslims that we are just the latest colonial power bent on domination of land, wealth and resources, namely oil."

Is there a way to improve America's standing in the community of nations?

al-Qeada supports McCain because McCain sold his soul to Cheney who let Bush family friend Bin Laden, al-Qeada and the Taliban all go to safe harbor in Pakistan.

Cheney loves al-Qeada because through them he justifies his Christian Oil Crusade in Iraq and the associated war profiteering he and his Republican cronies at Halliburton reap from this atrocity.

It is always difficult to know the motives of another group. We must analyze our condition and think about it.

(1) We have about 11$ Trillion in national debt.
(2) According to Sen. Obama we are still spending $10B a month in Iraq.
(3) We have lost more than 4,100 soldiers in Iraq war and tens of thousands wounded.
(4) We are in an economic crisis. We all know what the situation is.

You wrote:

"Consider the Clarion Fund, who sent 28 million copies of a Muslim-hating film called Obsession to households in swing states in a clear attempt to influence the election in favor of McCain. I've written elsewhere about how this film has made people afraid of their Muslim neighbors

But even more importantly, it makes all of us less secure. Because as our suspicions are cast upon our law-abiding Muslim neighbors, genuine terrorists might slip through. "

Amen to the above quote !

Could it be that Al-Qaida thinks that Sen McCain unwittingly be destructive for America because of his hard line and we would exacerbate the situation under his presidency? I always thought that Sen McCain is an honorable patriotic man.

Like I said, it is difficult to figure out the real motives.
