Peter King's hearings: Muslims stand united for a secure America

I wish people were more familiar with the name Salman Hamdani than the name Faisal Shehzad. Salman Hamdani was a first responder on Sep 11, 2001 and gave his life to save his fellow Americans.

American Muslims are frustrated that we continue to be associated with the villains that we have already expelled from our community rather than the heroes who we are trying to inspire our children to emulate. Unfortunately, Representative Peter King's hearings promise to raise the profile of the Faizal Shehzads rather than the Salman Hamdanis.

King claims that Muslim communities have not been doing enough to combat radicalization. The congressman has a penchant for sweeping generalizations ("There is a real threat to the country from the Muslim community") and dramatic overstatements ("over 80% of mosques in this country are controlled by radicals imams").

Let's look at the facts. According to a study by Charles Kurzman of the University of North Carolina, there were over thirty domestic terrorism attempts in 2010. Fewer than a third - 10 to be exact - involved American Muslims.

While Faisal Shehzad and Mohamed Mahmud - the American Muslims involved in the Times Square and Portland Christmas Tree lighting plots, respectively - got a lot of media headlines, the plots by Larry Eugene North (suspected of placing bombs in mailboxes across Eastern Texas) and George Jakubec (accused of manufacturing explosives in California) were equally worthy of the label 'terrorist' but garnered far less national news.

The fact is that danger is coming from a variety of sources.

American Muslims are highly attuned to the threat by some who lurk in the margins of our community. After all, we are just as likely to be in Times Square or central Portland as any other American, have just as much of a stake in the security of this nation as anyone else.

Kurzman's study shows that the most common method of disrupting terrorist plots involving American Muslims were tips from their fellow Muslims. It was an American Muslim street vendor Alioune Niass who alerted police to the suspicious SUV in Times Square. And it was Mahamud's own father who told officials that he was concerned about his son's increasingly radical views.

No wonder Attorney General Eric Holder called the cooperation of American Muslims "absolutely essential," and Sheriff Baca of Los Angeles said the community's participation has been "overwhelming." Most importantly, senior White House Deputy National Security Advisor Denis McDonough recently visited the ADAMS community center and mosque and emphasized the President's view on the American Muslim community: that it is fully part of the American family, and that it is part of the solution, not the problem.

Without naming King directly, McDonough spoke to why the framing of the hearings pose a danger for all of us. Al Qaeda thrives on drawing a false divide between Islam and America. Their message to young Muslims is that "America will never accept you, will always disrespect your faith and be suspicious of your community."

Sadly, a small number of young American Muslims - despite the best efforts of the American Muslim community and in the face of this nation's great traditions of welcoming - have been drugged by this dangerous lie.

Why Representative King seeks to raise the volume on the Al Qaeda narrative of separation is beyond me.

Now is the time for us to be united in our fight against the common challenge of domestic terrorism, not be divided by religion. Let us join together to make this nation safe for all our children. Let us collectively seek to eliminate threats regardless of the source.

Instead of any future hearings on the radicalization of Abrahamic religions:

There never was and never will be any angels i.e. no Gabriel, no Islam

There was and never will be any bodily resurrections i.e. No Easter, no Christianity

Abraham and Moses never existed.

Added details upon request.

And then there is this for the crybaby politicians and clerics:

Recognizing the flaws, follies and frauds in the foundations of Islam, Judaism and Christianity by the "bowers", kneelers" and "pew peasants" will converge these religions into some simple rules of life. No koran, bible, clerics, nuns, monks, imams, evangelicals, ayatollahs, rabbis, professors of religion or priests needed or desired.

Ditto for houses of "worthless worship" aka mosques, churches, basilicas, cathedrals, temples or synagogues.

And just think when this all comes to pass, there will be no reason for this blog to exist!!!!

"Muslims in the USA are a small minority, i.e. 0.6% of the population i.e. 1.8 million. And let us say that a small minority (0.6%) of these are Islamic terrorists i.e. 10,800 potential, koranic-driven suicide bombers.

Okay, aside from you just making up that number of "potential, koranic-driven suicide bombers", please do explain why we're not seeing coordinated suicide bombings every day here in the US if the threat from "radical Muslims" is anywhere near as legitimate as Rep. King and yourself are claiming.

Yeah, I'm real scared of a "threat" blathered about by a self-aggrandizing terrorist supporter like Rep. King, who never has apologized for his enthusiastic grovelling of the IRA or it's slaughter of innocent civilians.

Apparently for Rep. King, the victims of IRA or other non-Muslim terrorists aren't as dead or innocent as the victims of Muslim terrorists.

Hmmm, let us see about all of this:

Americans are progressively getting suspicious of Muslims and Islam because they are learning more about their temperament and ideology. Muslims are not the only terrorists in the world but are the only ones who do “their jihad” for and in the name of their religion. They are an angry bunch who is taught to show their love for Allah by hating the enemies of Allah i.e. anyone whose theology is not congruent with theirs. Eboo should know more than us infidels what their imams “preach “ in their mosques. Unfortunately the worst sedition these imams come up with they can justify by passages from their scriptures.

"Then we can talk about the safety and location of mosques...."

No, actually Yeal, even then you can't. Because your fellow citizens' religious practices are none of your business, and anyway nobody would listen to an obvious crank like you.

Getting to the heart of the problem:

The koran, Mohammed's book of death for all infidels and Muslim domination of the world by any means.

Muslims to include E. Patel must clean up this book removing said passages admitting that they are based on the Gabriel myth and therefore obviously the hallucinations and/or lies of Mohammed. Then we can talk about the safety and location of mosques and what is taught therein. Until then, no male Muslim can be trusted anytime or anywhere and that includes E. Patel.

Can you say President King? King is leveraging a rich vein of national fear here. A similar strategy worked for Senator Joe McCarthy but this one could last longer than the Cold War for King. Give it another terrorist attack on US soil blamed on Muslims at the right point in the election cycle, and King could ride this horse of hatred and bigotry all the way to the White House...
