Judge Replaces Glendon as Speaker at Notre Dame
By Jacqueline L. Salmon
Hot off the presses from the University of Notre Dame: U.S. Dist. Judge John T. Noonan Jr. will replace Ambassador Mary Ann Glendon at the Notre Dame graduation ceremony. Glendon backed out earlier this week, citing the school's plan to award an honorary degree to President Obama.
Noonan already has the Laetare Medal, which would have been awarded this year to Glendon. So his speech "will be in lieu of awarding the medal this year," according to the university's press release.
Catholic blogger David Gibson applauds the maneuver as a "pretty brilliant choice, IMHO."

HALLELUJAH! Glad to hear that Mary Ann Glendon will not receive the award. Good move Notre Dame. What does Mary Ann Glendon trying to prove? Nothing but IGNORANCY I suppose. What a waste to turn down the award for her own stupidity. Mary Ann Glendon, I repeat....GROW UP.

While Judge Noonan is a good choice for a speaker, Notre Dame has now lost something tangible: a laetare award recipient for 2009. Someone who, in later years, they could have pointed back to with pride.
I suspect that soon, maybe after graduation, they may lose more. If Catholic school teachers are fired on the spot for simply marrying divorcees, what do you do with university educators who honor the most powerful advocate for abortionists and eugenicists in this country?
Or perhaps there is no justice.

Mary Ann Glendon....you can altogether get out of the Catholic Faith, no one, specially myself, will give a hoot. YOU HYPOCRITE.
I am a devout Catholic, let's get this straight first. I grew up in a Catholic school from kindergarten to college and so are my two daughters. But I sure do not think like you do...you ignorant catholic ...GROW UP for God's sake.
Tell the Pope to control the CATHOLIC PRIEST who sexually abused the children in their diocese. I HATED those Priest who took advantage of the innocence of those children. But I do not hate my catholic faith nor what it stand for. Too bad my faith do not condone abortion rights nor the stem cell research but you see Mary Ann Glendon, I need to grow along with the changing time. I need to see the real purpose of God directing the next century of life in this universe. I need to experience what God has stored for us..at least for me, in the last half of my lifetime. YOU, MARY ANN GLENDON IS AN INSULT TO MY CATHOLIC FAITH.
