Guns OK in This Church
By Jacqueline L. Salmon
A God and government story we just couldn't pass by: A Louisville, Ky., church is sponsoring an "Open Carry Church Service" June 27 at which people are being asked to wear guns (unloaded) in their holsters, listen to presentations by gun store and firing range operators and enter a raffle to win a free handgun.
Kinda different from those Catholic bingo nights.
According to the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Pastor Ken Pagano of New Bethel Church said the event is designed to promote "responsible gun ownership and 2nd Amendment rights."
According to the newspaper, it was being promoted at the Assemblies of God church's website with an online poster using a red font resembling splattered blood. But that poster has been replaced by an invitation promoting the event that is set against a copy of the Constitution.
The event, not surprisingly, is not being greeted with open arms by fellow ministers. The Rev. Nancy Jo Kemper opined that the event would "nauseate Jesus."
Pagano says, "It's just a celebration we're doing to coincide with Fourth of July. There are people who own firearms and do so responsibly and enjoy them as a sport, maybe like golfing or bowling."
