Answering the call: by their fruits you will recognize them
Delaware GOP Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell told the Christian Broadcasting Network last week that that she believes it was God plan for her to campaign and ultimately, to win:
"God continued to strengthen and empower us when, you know, His strength is perfected in our weakness. And that's what's exciting because you see, that if it weren't for faith, when all logic said it's time to quit, we pursued. We marched on because we knew God was not releasing us to quit. And now with such an important lame duck session you realize why we were to endure all that stuff."
How should constituents interpret statements by politicians who see their campaigns and causes as part of God's plan? How do you decipher God's intentions for you?
I am going to go out on a limb and guess that your opinion of Christine O'Donnell was not greatly affected by her comments about God's plan. She is the kind of candidate you defend passionately or fight vigorously. It is clear where she stands on most issues and it is easy to predict how she would vote in the Senate. Do you oppose her or support her because of her outspoken religious beliefs? I seriously doubt it. Her comments may make you more passionate, but they will not change your vote.
As you know, Christine O'Donnell has a well-documented career in the social conservative movement. Whether you are a believer, an atheist, or somewhere in-between, judge a politician on what they do, including how they run their campaign, not merely by what they say. There is no need to judge politicians on their internal dialogue with God, even when they publicly discuss it. We have the ability to apply an objective test to our politicians - candidates or incumbents.
In 1999, a Governor from Texas told a prominent evangelical leader that, "I've heard the call. I believe God wants me to be president." The tremendous evangelical support for President Bush (78% of white evangelicals in 2004) had nothing to do with how he interpreted God's plan for his future. The president's belief that God wanted him to run for president no doubt encouraged him to campaign aggressively and remain confident but it did not guarantee votes. He won because of the positions he took during the 2000 campaign and what he did as president leading up to the 2004 reelection campaign.
If the idea of a "calling" is foreign to you, Apostle Paul explained it succinctly. "We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully."
This does not mean that everything unfolds according to our "plans" or that determining one's calling is easy. In the Hebrew Bible we read that, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." We are flawed humans who sometimes misinterpret God's call or fail to comprehend its full scope. Accordingly, we should not be afraid to stand up to someone who invokes God when our conscious tells us to.
Sometimes, we answer our calling by taking a stand even when we know that we will almost certainly fail. A candidate may be following their call by running unsuccessfully for public office. We can follow God's plan, answer our calling, and lose. This idea is not always easy to comprehend - sometimes God's plan does not include success in every endeavor.
When deciding whether to vote for or against someone, remember that what they do and how they conduct themselves is more important than what they say.
"Thus, by their fruits you will recognize them."

I am so sick of the line "separation of Church and State". The only reference to such a statement is in a letter written by Thomas Jefferson and not in ANY letter of the Constitution!!!!!! The Constitution states that the government will keep its hands off of our freedom to worship not the other way around!!! No government persecution!!! Persecution is coming from people who quote Jefferson and not the Constitution!!!

Christine O'Donnell states God is for her in the election.
Both Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis believed God was on their side about the U.S. Civil War. The problem the two sides opposed each other with respect to the war.
Later Abraham Lincoln was asked how he could determine God was on his side and not on the side of Jefferson Davis.
Lincoln stated the determination would be by the outcome of the war.

I think she is flaky and should keep separation of church and state in mind. As a devout atheist, I don't have any invisible means of support as she apparently does, and at least she is clear on who she is. Obama, on the other hand, was a mistake I made in '08 and will never make again. He is totally anti-Israel and pro-Islam, which is frightening in many ways. At least O'Connell doesn't seem to place more importance on political correctness (a concept that belongs in the garbage), than to who she is spiritually.

Christine, Christ with an "ine" should leave god out of the campaign. After all, there is supposed to be a separation of church and state and this is slowly being eroded by the likes of sharia law and the Islamic agenda and we must not lose sensitivity to this. I am a moral person and do not have any invisible means of support in being so, which is why people like her scare me. Is she a witch who now converted to Christianity? What made her beliefs change? Did she hear the voice of Jesus tell her to drop her evil ways and repent now before all is lost? All I know is that I don't particularly agree with the leftist Washington Post, but on this one, I do. O'Donnell, is out front in who she is, at least, but I don't think I would vote for her; but on the other hand, I voted for Obama and that was a bigger mistake. Maybe George Carlin (RIP) was correct in saying that all politicians don't care about us; they only care about being re-elected.

How did Jordan Sekulow’s article on Christianity and politics get to be a referendum for Milt Romney’s run for the presidency and the efficacy of the Mormon Church??
As a Christian who has studied Mormonism at length, I have a compelling DVD and a number of books you should read. Unfortunately, many gullible, well-meaning people have been taken in by the claims of LDS founder, Joseph Smith, and his tale of the “magic golden plates” written in Egyptian hieroglyphics.
Joseph Smith was a deluded religious fraud who trafficked in magic arts; his pupils dupes and artisans and murderers. Today’s LDS leaders persist in perpetuating Mormon myth and dismiss historical fact. The LDS Church insists on adherence to non-biblical principles and scriptures and instructs members in secret occultic practices forbidden in the Bible. LDS is decidedly NOT Christian. Despite its pious exterior, its religious books are evil travesties; its followers questionable as to motive, deluded as to truth, and its church base contemptible and corrupt.
This is what Jesus in the Bible had to say about false prophets in
Matthew 7:15-23:
“A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that doesn’t bring forth good fruit is thrown into the fire. Wherefore, by their fruits you shall know them.
“Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord have we not prophesied in your name? And in your name cast out devils? And in your name done many wonderful works?’
“And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, you that work iniquity.”
The Bible remains the only true source of God’s holy revelation, transmitted through prophets and teachers in the nation of Israel, and wholly consistent within itself despite being written over centuries by 66 different authors.
Overwhelming proofs include hundreds of prophecies concerning Israel’s Messiah and our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. By contrast, the Book of Mormon is a mishmash of inaccurate and contradictory information that refutes history, archaeology and God’s revelation in the Bible. Joseph Smith’s story of an ancient people who supposedly settled in The Americas and were visited by Christ has never been validated by any archaeological or manuscript evidence whatsoever.
Educate yourself in the truth. Amazon.com has a number of excellent books. Search “Nonfiction, True Accounts, Mormonism”, for starters.

Examine your religious history from other than LDS eyes. The Jesus presented in the Book of Mormon is not the Jesus of the Bible. Remember: You shall know them by their fruits.

The majority of Americans, can relate to someone running for public office, who express a belief in almighty God. The American public, feels a great relief, when someone feels God is calling them to run for public office. People, running for public office, who express Faith in God, are so rare now, that it is truely a great joy, to see that not everyone running for public office, is bought and paid for.

LOL..... do you think a man like DAVID....would even consider being connected with a group like that today? David, who revered and feared the Lord, one of the greatest Kings, who wrote the Psalms, do you think any of those people in the Tea Party are King David's equivalent? No one alive today, sadly, is his equivalent. David, father of King Solomon, author of the Proverbs, and The Wisest King who ever lived. We need to pray for those who are doing battle to protect this nation, our sovereignty, our constitution and our heritage. The enemies within are greater, but he is greater, pray for Jay and Jordan and for Hannity, Beck and all those who truly believe in the founding of our nation by men who believed in God and protecting our freedom. Pray that God will scatter our enemies and not only remove the enemies of our nation, but deliver us from their evil ways. God is still on the throne, he just wants us believers to rise up and take the challenge and pray the defeat of these anti-Americans and their plans to disarm the greatest nation that ever lived. Certainly a person's actions dictate what one is truly about, their true colors... Words, while sometimes lending to an accurate perception or indication of character, can also likewise be incredibly pretentious and misleading, if not diabolical. (Such was the case with Hitler, and to this day I wonder, could the unbearable tragedy of the Holocaust been prevented had he been accepted into the Art Academy.. Strange as that may sound, he was initially interested in, yet rejected by, the Art world. His resounding bitterness and lack of true faith took him eventually down a very diabolical and historically volatile road.) The past few years have duly shocked those who blindly initially listened only to the words, the surface musical notes of the campaign; not seeking the more telling, soul searching, and revealing actions, the clarity of notes, of those currently serving in politics. While being outspoken may be a misunderstood gift in its own right, Jordan truthfully identifies
that the fruits of one's morality, character, and faith are, in addition, necessary. What he says about God's will is interesting, and I agree, that sometimes God's will may not involve what we would perceive as personal success for us. Perhaps God finds more meaning and true success in someone experiencing a loss, if it has a strong, resounding, rippling, and positive impact on the lives of others. Maybe numerous souls can be saved in such a difficult lesson concerning adversity. Maybe one life has the capability of holding a profound meaning for the lives of so many.
This quote comes from "Apples of Gold," copyright MCMLXVII, page 11, compiled by Jo Petty; most of the authors were unknown, yet it wasn't a great concern, for their timeless morality and wisdom remains. She said as such, "Do not inquire as to who said this, but pay attention to what is said."

The same could be said for a woman, of course. (Such as a Saint.) Although this quote personally makes me think of Jesus.
The important thing to remember in politics is that the possibilty exists of a person being a chameleon, exhibiting a remarkable ability to change one's views/one's faith/one's critical goals/agenda or political appearance, depending upon (the weather, lol) a whim, or more aptly, the given circumstance, and who/whom they are trying most to impress. We can discern a great deal of knowledge and truth in consultations with the Holy Spirit. I believe that those who truly walk with God will know the truth, and not be deceived by one who could potentially be evil. Someone said the AntiChrist is not one human being; I think we are seeing more than one possiblility even now, perhaps those involved are like the arms of the very same menacing octopus. Lucifer (Latin for light bearer) fell from God's grace, and he is the ultimate deception, as the truly fallen angel.

Agree that God as a "perfect" will for the life of his children (born again believers) and then when we choose our own way He may allow us to continue in His permissive will.
If Christine has a close relationship with God she may find that He is leading her into running for office, but that does not mean that she will win. He might have something else for her to do, but it is the right thing to go if she believes God is leading her. I learned and have applied a 3 step approach for finding God's will from a Bible College teacher and pastor over 30 years ago.
1. It will be for a Godly purpose (probably not a pornography editor or writer)
2. Trend of Circumstances (things seem to fall in to place in succession)
3. An inward feeling (still small voice, dissatisfaction with current situation, the passion of the heart, etc)

If you had heard O'Donnell speak on Hannity about her debts - you would realize that they have been paid - and she was taking pro bono cases from people that could not afford fees - also the tax letter she got from IRS was straightened out - and she says she has a letter to prove it - the RHINO she ran against and the Leftist Democrat currently in race love to smear - but they are ok with destroying country.

Only she can know God's call for her life.
However fruits are not acts, but acts are the result of fruits. Fruits are charachteristic tendancies of a person's inner self, which are revealed to the World but mostly to those close enough to know the person.
Anyone can do acts of kindness or otherwise, but God's Spirit is instilled to a person who has the Spirit indwelt within. These fruits are manifest and come almost automatic, if a person is in THE SPIRIT, for they are GOD's characteristics.
It is a lengthy subject.
I can only see acts that MAY be produced from the Spirit within, but acts can be done by others also. Acts are not a tell tale sure sign of favor with God. Fruits are a sign. Can they be faked? That I let up to the experts.

I agree with the statement, "By their fruits ye shall know them! Look at the persons character; his integrity; his willingness to listen to the people; his accomplishments; his qualifications....these are what matter most. Had the voters done this, we would not have Obama as President today.
What will the voters look for in 2012? Honesty, integrity, ability, accomplishments, qualifications? Or will they let a candidates religion blind them from looking at the individual and their qualification for getting us out of the mess we are in? Religion often defines an individual...they are a person of substance because the believe in God and are committed to living by Christian principles; or they are religious in name only and possess no substance! We, the voter must discern for ourselves who will support "One Nation Under God".....meaning they will be influenced by Christian principles, trusting in God's help and influence in making decisions for and in behalf of the people, even as our Founding Fathers had the courage to do!!
There were those who maligned Mitt Romney in the last election for his religion, yet how much did those who cried foul KNOW about his religion?? Very little. They were content to call his religion a Cult, which is without substance or truth. Any honest person who if familiar with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,(Mormon),
knows of the great humanitarian service they render to the world; the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir; The Brigham Young University....all are beacons of what the Church believes and teaches...Come unto Christ and find peace.....
Those religions who have maligned the "Mormon Church" should invite their followers to find out for themselves about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints....visit a Temple Open House; a Visitor Center; The Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City; listen to talks given at their General Conferences held in April and October...read them online at lds.org....then armed with the evidence they find, come back to the church show what they found.....there will not be enough evidence to convict the LDS people of being a cult, but ample evidence that they are indeed The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and are governed by true Christian principles as taught by the Savior, even Jesus Christ when He walked upon the earth!!
Will those who so malign The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have enough courage to invite their followers to find out for themselves about what the "Mormons" really believe? Knowledge and understanding is power....power to choose what is right! Truth will prevail in spite of the fear mongers.....

I will begin with an open admission - I don't know.
I think the Tea Party is largely composed of people who are God inspired for country and King Jesus but who frequently display a lack of common sense or experience.
I recall so many stories from the Old Testament of how God in "foolish seeming" ways rescued his people or gave the victory.
1 Corinthians 1:25-27 Because of the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
or ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, nor many noble are called.
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.
I see the virus that disarmed the nuclear threat looming over us from Iran as a type of victory so often reported in the Old Testament.
Yet, I am concerned because I don't think many of the Tea Party candidates have the experience or the common sense that is so essential to worldly wisdom.
I am doing what research I can before I vote. I am also asking Christians who have been involved and interested in politics longer than I have, to advise and guide me. Yet I do not promise to vote as they say.
I don't know.
But one thing I do know. God is still on the throne. He puts those in power whom HE chooses to be in power. I rely on HIS choices. I pray that God's choices will be reflected with great accuracy in the election results. The winning candidates are chosen by God whether or not they would be my choice candidates.
The little shepherd boy, David, whom in my human understanding I might have called a foolish braggart was the one God chose to defeat the Philistines. He would have been a perfect candidate for Tea Party.

The majority of citizens in the USA have no problems with politicians professing their faith. The vocal minority (including the mainstream media), however, verbally attack conservative politicians, especially conservative Jewish and Christians, who profess their faith. Example - President Obama is given a pass whenever he mentions faith because he is a liberal. More liberal examples include pro-choice Speaker Pelosi (Catholic), Senator Reid (Mormon), and Senator Kerry (Catholic). It is not so much the faith professed by politicians, but their politics, when it comes to religious judgments by the left and their media.

Does anyone else here believe that we are in the last days? This is somewhat of a loaded question, but in the last days we know that there is going to be worldwide turmoil which will lead to one world order or what we call New World Order.
In looking at our current political climate, I believe that we are being made puppets by a puppet master, and that puppet master's end goal is to create this worldwide turmoil which will then create a single ruler which will be the Anti-Christ. He will be known by the seven year treaty that he creates to end all of the worldwide turmoil and he will be loved by a large majority of all, and from there we will be forced to go along with the one world system or pay the consequence.
I love listening to your radio broadcast Jordan, and I love what you are doing for all of us, and we are to fight to the end.
My concern is that we as Americans are imploding through our greed, and that our greed has blinded us to vote those into power that are there today. Worse yet, I am concerned that unless we humble ourselves as a nation that we will do it all over again with the next vote which bring us the USA (I know that we resemble the Divided States of America)and we will see another reign of terror such as Hitler and others that claimed to be Christian take over.
History repeats itself over and over again, and I thought that our current leaders were the new Hitler, but now I am concerned that our next leader may be that person if history repeats itself like I mentioned.
We saw one leader in Germany set up laws to protect itself from the Nazi regime only to see the Nazi regime take over anyway. With that were anti gun laws, and a blind people that disarmed themselves which led to Hitler's reign of terror.
Jordan, continue the good work! Please keep the gun laws, and the other legislation that could make history repeat itself at bay. People we need to be aware of all of this, and where we are at in history!

Christine was bold to declare her actions as God’s will, but I applaud her. Something we need to consider is why the Tea Party, why now? It is my opinion that it is the work of the Hold Spirit. In Armey’s book, “Give Us Liberty”, he tells the story of three women in three different areas of the country, getting concerned and taking action all at the same time. Interestingly, they were all women. This could not be a coincidence if you are believer. These ladies responded, and I believe they were doing the work of the H.S. The Holy Spirit responded because for years millions of believers have been praying for our country and our country’s leaders. Looking back, I am sure you can agree, it is the right time. God gave us Obama because His providence was in our beginnings. America is His country too. Now he wants us to do his work by taking it back. To me, this is very exciting. However, I am dismayed that many people (believers too) put their hope and faith in Obama and the government. They forgot how God works. They failed to put their hope and faith in God. I am excited to see how God is working and showing us He not only loves each and every one of us, but He loves America. May God continue to bless our country and the people be grateful to Him.
I also want to give the Lord the credit for the Berlin wall coming down. The Lord responded to our millions of prayers over the years and used Regean as His Moses.

I am always pleased when someone in the political arena declares their faith and calling under God. Transparency is a value that God endorses (He is light and truth) and each of us has our mission at his direction. I've known many, including myself, who have stepped out in faith at God's call, not on our own want or need, and in spite of the fact that we may feel inept or foolish. (Try Moses, David, Noah, Joseph, etc.) It's a difficult place to be at times, but He honors it.
I would vote for O'Donnell based on her sincerity and transparency. Like everyone, everywhere, she is not a perfect person, but God uses all of us, working through our weaknesses and also gifts to show Himself strong.
Politics and religion are entwined for several reasons:
1.Every ideology has at root some moral construct and principles, be they theistic, atheistic and secular humanistic, monotheistic, polytheistic,etc. Our thoughts, words, and deeds reflect our core morality in all we do and stand for.
2. There is no separation between church and state in the Constitution. We are to be protected by its guarantee of freedom of worship and protection from the government's encroaching and enacting a "state religion" as in the Church of England or the "secular humanism" being foisted on us now. That's why this country, chartered under God, was colonized in the first place.
3. God is our Lawgiver, Executive, and Judge, hence our tripartate "checks and balances" government. God also tells us that, when Jesus returns, the government "will be on His shoulders". As with all things, including peace, only our sinless and perfect God can rule justly. God never intended for us to have kings, because He understood so well the power dynamic and the tyranny of man in our corruptness.
That being said, we must endeaver to know well the character of those who would "lead us", and the source of their principles, most hopefully our Creator. For too long, we have been voting for the "lesser of the two evils", meaning they are both "evil" and accepting as "OK" that politicians may be liars, deceivers, and cheaters by nature.
We must now DEMAND elsewise, before it's too late to recapture America from the darkness, corruption, and deception that has wrongfully been empowered to destroy, decimate, and dismantle our freedoms, our heritage, and our sovereignty.
Having, collectively, gone off the "God Standard", we have lost all standards and inherent blessings and liberty that only God can give. We are now being "ruled" by lawlessness, deception and darkness, and the tyranny of man. This is the price for our own apathy, complacency, ungratefulness , and foolishnesss.

Just common sense. We should vote for the person, not a party, and we know a person by what he/she has done/said. Certainly, actions speak louder than words, but, if a person has always acted one way but says he/she will start acting/voting another way, we must wonder if that is true or false. We must ask why there has been a change of mind. Sekulow is just saying that we should use common sense, something sorely lacking in many people these days.

First off, I use the King James Version Bible, am a Born Again by The Blood Christian, and try to live my life by that fact, Faith is expressed very strongly in The Bible. "Religion" is described as an offensive, over puffed up, type of serving what ones "thinks' should be OK, because they say so. Christianity is what God calls the "True Religion", as it is the following of Jesus Christ. Not a lot of pretense.
"Answering the call: by their fruits you will recognize them" Actually is stated thus: Matthew 7:20 "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
when we begin changing the reading to "modern times" we are acting in an un-Godly respect.
The contextual writing of this goes a little further:
"Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Matthew 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

The words ending in "th" are of a linear tense, not past, present, nor future. It is depicting of a continual living.

As for the initial question, "How should constituents interpret statements by politicians who see their campaigns and causes as part of God's plan?" The answer is simple; see how they have lived, how they are living, and interpret how they will live.
As for Christine O'Donnell, if she believes truly that God wants her to run in politics, it is her decision to make. We do not know God's calling of another, until they begin the journey. As with "I've heard the call. I believe God wants me to be president." The tremendous evangelical support for President Bush" George Bush, started quite fine, and I believe he did show it to be God's will. However, he dropped the ball by trying to be "popular" and entwining with the Democrats. He promised no new taxes, they harassed him until he caved in and raised the taxes. He started our war against Terrorism.

Debate in the public arena is a good thing. I am for people airing out there differences; all their differences. I believe that through such public venues everybody has a chance to listen, engage, and respond; to the betterment of all concerned. Wise and unwise alike will see the truths of our state of affairs, weigh them, and ultimately know that the life and death of this America, Our America, rests in the hands of our Creator and in those people He has chosen to lead U.S.. Study the Christian bible carefully along with American and world history and Americans will know it is God alone who orders our steps! In my opinion, the idea of keeping religion out of politics proves that the individuals capable of doing this are either lying about their commitment to their religion, as it must be what their life is based upon or they have no real, true to the heart religion. In either case they are not honest with the people or themselves and should not be trusted with any other responsibilities like being part of running a country. It would be refreshing for people to simply be honest with who they are and what they believe.

It is the destruction of the beliefe in God that drives the homosexual agenda and the current political drive to seperate church and government as a physical reality. You would have to be a fool to think that this country was not built on religious beliefes. Just look at all the referances to God on every thing including our money. We who believe in God do not have to injure any one in order to express our beliefe in Gods word, just pray for those who do not. It is not our position to judge, that is for God to do. Our job is to live our lives as God tells us to as best we can. We must continue to express our beliefe in Gods word no matter what none believers say. Jordan's article is right on, just because a candidate says that they are answering God's call means nothing if their life does not reflect that calling in their life. Christians really have to look at what is going on in America and stand up for what is right. Christains can no longer set on the sidelines and complain about our country's sinking morality. Only candidates that have high morals can enact laws that reinforce those morals. Every legitimate law is based on morals, don't steal is in the Bible and it is also unlawful to steal someone elses property. All of Western Law is based on the 10 Commandments. Christians need to get involved in Politics and get out and vote for candidates that stand for their Biblical beliefs. Our Rights as US Citizens were given to us by "Our Creater", not the government. We as a people are that government, and we as a people have to get involved and take back control of our Country and the direction that it is going. The US is a "Free Country" because it was founded on Biblical Principles. Christianity is the only Religion that allows other religions to come here and practice freely. Christians get out and vote for candidates that show that they are truely following "Gods Call". The percentage of Christians that did not vote in our last election is very disturbing, if half of those that did not vote had voted, the election would have gone a different direction. Half of our Founding Fathers were Pastors, the first Speaker of the House was a Pastor. Christians were among those that founded this great country, and Christians need to get up off of their couches and get involved in todays events that will forever decide the direction of this country.

Faith is not an accessory in life. If is the river from which one's life flows and is guided. Your actions will always follow your beliefs, whatever they are! Some of us are just more open about it and it is more easily seen by our actions. To those who claim to be believers yet don't wish to involve themselves in politics, I say: Good thing that Esther, Moses, Daniel, and Joseph didn't take that stance! We DO have modern day Esthers, Moses', Daniels and Josephs, and they face the same criticism and threats that their predecessors did. God bless you and your father - I listen to your radio program and support you. I am affected positively & do support Christine for her outspoken religious beliefs - it helps win my vote. Our problem is that we have become too foreign/embarrassed to make & hear those type comments in today's society - some feel uncomfortable, perhaps even you, and if so, shame on you. You are basing this on her comment only, yet talk about fruits - well they go hand in hand. Why not have backed up her comment with her deeds and then ask for our opinions. I realize anyone can say the "right" thing just to get a vote, yet their heart is deceitful. Well, that's where we, especially Christians know we are to discern words and deeds and not just mere words.
You say to judge a politican on what they do & how they run their campain, not merely what they say, WELL it comes as a complete package. All of us have been hearing mere words from politicians for many years now, so that's nothing new to us. However, we know that if you are truly walking the walk (fruits - deeds), then you can't help but talk the talk (words). Paul was a great example of that. The two go hand-in-hand. When you give yourself to God, you are to give Him your all in all, therefore, you step out in faith and live your life by your actions and words. When Christine made that statement, she could make it because her actions have already preceded her.
Also, a true Christian knows that God sometimes says "No" to our prayers/requests and even if we don't understand why, we still keep the faith, knowing His will is best, and we leave it in His hands, not ours. When we feel the "call" to do and say something, we are to step out in faith and just do it. The Bible is full of examples of those, many who seemed unlikely, that God called and worked with that would at the time make people shake their heads in bewilderment.
Many people are praying for our country right now (many of us have been praying on a continual basis since July 4th) and I believe God is hearing our prayers. Have you not noticed that more conservatives are stepping forward - those who have morals about them and who want to help turn our country around - I do not think our prayers in are vain. I think God uses you and your father to defend us and I pray and thank God for you to be there to defend us and the faith - you can do what most of us can't. God's hand is at work in many ways, we just need to get out His way so He can do what He desires to do. It's His will, not ours, yet we must do our part by prayer, and walking the walk and talking the talk.
My hat goes off to Christine for being bold enough to make her comment and I would suggest we all pray for her (and others with moral character who are beginning to step up to the plate) that her actions/deeds would always compliment her words.

I don't believe in free will. It is a religious belief that has no merit in secular thought, nor in the Christian bible. Everything is predetermined according to the laws of nature, and nature's God. Everything you do or will do is known and is done according to GOD'S WILL; not yours. Likewise if you are godless: everythiing has been determined by the position of every particle and the laws they are affected by, including your brain chemistry. Nothing you do can have any significance on the final destination of this universe: it began, and it ends, secular or not.

I support "one nation under GOD with liberty and justice for ALL"....including Christians who seem to be vilified by the media...on a continual basis.
My hope, my dream is one day those running for office .. any office would plainly put, "say what they mean and mean what they say!" Being a Politician has hit an all time low from any vantage point from which you care to look.
I see them as morally bankrupt as they have made the country...no integrity, no accountability, no honor...and i dont think they know how to read! if we deserve the government we elect - I guess that does not speak well of us either!
Public apathy in this venue has done the country a huge dis-service and one we must rectify this election or plainly put kiss your country and your freedom goodbye...once lost, it would take a lifetime to get back, if ever!
It is time for Christians to stop separating themselves "from church and state" and stop believing the lie that the separation was ever meant to be against you and your infleuence! But rather just the opposite! A strong Faith in all walks of society was to be the norm...Faith was engendered by our forefathers. Hearalded.. Not this "abscence of faith" babble that is put forth today!
Christianity brings with it a high sense of direction and purpose...i would think about how she could best fill those shoes and bring dignity and honor back to Washington DC! We as voters fill the shoes of an informed electorate. So once and for all, we have a government of, by, and for the people ... not back door deals and closed door meetings and pecking order for chairing a committee..that ought not ever be!
So pray for wisdom (should you be inclined-I know not everyone in the country is a believer) before you vote and ask God to guide your vote. He knows all and sees all these somewhat less than forthcoming politicians care to divulge...I wish her (O'Donnell) all the best may your heart and words be true and sure! win or lose mean what you say...

I am a conservative christian. I have not held this view for a long time, but just resently i began looking at things differently. The great comission of Christ was not to go and make this world a better place. In Revalations he said it would get worse before it gets better. I believe when churches get involved with politics that there is automaticlly a barrier between two sets of people making it hard to bring people to christ. With that being said, i still think we should vote as christians but not to take advantage of God like some have.

When God has a plan for us it might not be the way we thought it would go and end up on the negative side of the spectrum. As did George Bush, but we can't forget his father is in favor of the One World Government agenda. As is Clinton and Obama.
This government was started by a God-based Constitution. Unfortunately, with Freedom of Religion, things have been easier for the attempt to take God out of the American Government. You cannot seperate Church and State when your laws of the land are God-based. Too many elected officials have been in office as career politicians and these are the ones that are trying to take God out of our government. This is why so many of those that oppose God are in government to map their own agenda for the breakdown of this country. People are against Christine O'Donnell because she is religious. You can't discredit her for owing money, everyone has bills to pay. Now everyone is falling behind to get them paid thanks to being out of work. The officials in office now are definately for changing America into one country with Mexico and Canada. The fight for AMERICA-ONE NATION UNDER GOD is part of Christine O'Donnell and her run for office. If you think things are bad now keep on putting all those career politicians back in office. Or we could go the way things are supposed to be and take care of America first.

What I heard is that she runs her campaign from her house instead of a campaign office, so it is perfectly legal and moral to use some campaign funds to help pay for house expenses. It has a Christian contract with America, it shows how the first Amendment really ought to be read by the Supreme Court, and it details a new kind of church which can escape the establishment clause and may help your own personal walk.
If we can convert Congress back to respecting Jesus Christ daily, we can save America and the world. Just think if Congress returned to having Bible study and praying for 3 hours daily before getting to the nation's business, there would be far more reliance on Divine Providence, far less partisan disagreements, and less time wasted on legislating unimportant matters resulting in reducing the size of government for all.

This is scary. Some of the worst people in the world have believed that God was in charge of them.
The Founders recognized the differences of opinion, not just between religions, but among those who profess to be Christians, thus the separation of church and state. (In colonial Virginia, the Anglican (state) church even took children away from Baptist families to be raised right in Anglican ones!
There is no evidence that any religion ever made anyone a better person and they certainly make some people intolerant and curb critical thinking skills.

I personally don't believe God gets involved in the "small stuff" with a whole universe at the least to concern him, but the truth is we should all be voting for candidates on the basis of their actions; far more than their words; as an example McCain keeps spouting the right words around election time, but his actions show him to be anything but an honest, conservative person who heeds his constituency! There are quite few of those in power just now and need to be removed from those offices and replaced by people who will act according to the standards of the Constitution and what's best for the constituency, rather than some group's agenda that may be presented, and any who fail to do so need to be replaced yet again!

I agree with Apostle Paul . I believe Ms. O`Donnell faith will not have any effect on the people that know Our Lord , I believe if they like her they will vote for her. Everyone is different , everyone has a different relationship with God . I know that my relationship with Jesus is extremely strong , no one can tear it apart. Everyone has a different purpose on this earth. We do know that as it says in the bible, God does place people into government positions. God Bless

It is sad to me the way faith is taboo in the political arena. I agree: I do not vote for someone just because they claim God told them to run, but if I am already inclined to support the candidate then it definitely encourages me. I believe God does tell people to run for office. I believe God puts people in office and takes them out even though I know that by sight it is millions of voters. I do pray about elections that God's will be done regardless of my personal political persuasions. I like it very much when my political leaders are motivated by their Christian faith. To be honest I would not like it if they were motivated by some other faith. Even so, I would rather have leaders motivated by some other faith than those who claim to have none, thus making government god. I believe God is able to accomplish his purposes even through those who hate him, but I pray for godly leaders so that things will go well with our country.

In our history of past America; it was almost a qualification to be a Christian to run for any political office.
If Ms O'Donnell wishes to use her belief in God that's is all good and well to keep as many believers in Biblical principles in our country as possible.
But lest we forget that is one of the things Carter campaigned on and wore his so-called brand of Christianity on his sleeve.
Agree, let's "trust but verify" or un trust.
A lot of people believe in "a" God, but Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me".

Jay - thank you for your article & prayers for the work you, your father & many others at ACLJ do. I read the many comments about Christine and honestly share some of the same concerns....but here's the thing. I believe the Lord gives the people the government they deserve. That may sting a bit, but anyone with a genuine live relationship with the Lord Jesus would have to take the log out of his own eye first. It's always so much easier to look at leadership or anyone else before we put ourselves in the same scrutiny & light. There are 40 day prayer vigils all across the country & I recently read an article about many government rep.'s of both parties meet regularly for prayer - almost 200 of them. These prayers vigils seem to be aimed at the leaders of our country but I believe they will ultimately put us under the same glaring eye & find us guilty/honest or perhaps in process & yet still useful for the Lord. If God can use a donkey, he can use you, me and perhaps leaders like Christine. So shouldn't our criticisms/concerns & prayers be aimed at ourselves first, and secondly at the nation and our leaders with the utmost fervency rather than decide who God can use....that's up to Him alone..."and the govt.s' shall sit upon His shoulder." If I were Satan, I would be attacking America with every arsenal I have especially anyone with conviction and/or in leadership. I'd be preying on their past mistakes & human weaknesses trying to detract from them and others from what God can do in & through them. Doesn't that include all of us? From the grassroots up we should be praying for a change of hearts in ourselves, our children & most especially for our leadership who ever they are that God will turn their hearts & ours from the voice of Satan, self righteousness & ask for His wisdom and expect an answer? I say YES! from the highest building if I could get there. We must discern, we must vote & we must protect the freedoms and argue in the public square....but not by our own strength...in one much higher and He will plan our paths. It is an exercise in these days leading up to the elections as to whether He will find faithful people to yet appoint faithful leaders over or allow His correction to our sinfulness as well as leaderships to be His call. This is indeed an equalizer in humility across the boards. I hope people will indeed fall and pray accordingly for themselves & for many people that God can indeed use in our country/lives. As far as the Government and Religion go
if you correctly interpret the Constitution
our protection was to keep Government out
and Faith in.
As far as a Christian goes who has a past
and has asked God to forgive them for their
sin my "Jesus" has cast it as far as the east is to the west.
And you are vary correct in stating that
God's plan and our own I have found to be true are different but looking back on all of my failures I can say with complete
honesty that God's plan was unbelievable
better.
But with that said if I feel something to to be "right" as a calling that is
leading me in a direction,whether it works
out as I envisioned are not the end result
will be God's will.
With that being said I ask God to answer
my prayer as if he will do just that.And
if my prayer turns out different than I imagined then I know my prayer was not good for me and might even effect my life
for the worst not best .
So I start my prayers off with God if this is the best thing for my life I believe you will make it happen and I have more prayers that he made happen then not against more odds and graver situations then even just an election.
Christine O'Donnell I believe has excepted "Jesus Christ" and become new again and deserves a chance to fight for
and save this country from a possible attempt to overthrow the Republic of the United States.
I believe she is an open book I like her I like were she stands and that is for
America and not a "Mosque" and I would vote for her in the blink of an eye.

I strongly believe that it's important to watch what people say, for out of their mouths, the heart speaks. I also believe that Christians shouldn't have to justify their right to run for office. If they are called by God to run, then they must obey. They will be held accountable for obeying or not obeying. I was listening to a song today reflecting Psalm 127, and I think it applies here, as well---"For unless You build this house, I am building it in vain. Unless the work is Yours, there is nothing to be gained..." Honestly, our nation is desperately in need of good, honest, pure, Godly leaders who are willing to not only speak the Truth, but back up the Truth by their actions. Since we are all frail and human, since we are all made of arms of flesh and feet of clay, and we all in our human wisdom are desperately lacking, we need Jesus Christ. God alone can heal, fill, and restore this nation. God alone can build this country. Unless we line up with His plans, our own are vanity. Not too many in this country want to recognize that we need Him so desperately. In this pluralistic nation, it's become intolerant to stand for the One who gave His life for us. Is that why even such articles become written? We don't have to justify the things that God calls us to do. We just need to do them. No matter what the cost. Here's the deal...We can all try and figure out how this nation is going to be run by our own wisdom, or we can TRUST GOD. He has a plan. And, I for one am ready to hear from those who are SEEKING HIM. We need Godly leaders. As King Jehoshephat said to God, "We don't know what to do, our eyes are on You." We are at those times. Only the liberals care what Ms. ODonnel said because she is a threat to their philosophy. It is ironic and hypocritical of liberals (even some Republicans) that they are so intolerant of Christians. I call them "christophobes".
The liberals think that we listen to conservative radio and join the Tea Party because they tell us what to think. But it is the opposite. We stopped listening and purchasing liberal media to find someone who thinks like we do.
The real hate speach is by the liberals. They are intolerant though they claim tolerance. If we disagree with anything they believe in they call that hate. But they talk the real hate speach. They call us names, they belittle us. And much of it is obvious and blatant organized ideas they throw out to try to sway the public.
Conservatives must be diligent and ignore the liberal media. Since they have a philosphy that the ends justifies the means, they appear to be willing to say anything including a lie to save their power base. Let's replace them with God's help!

I don't think there is anything wrong with Ms. O'Donnell referencing her Christian faith. The Constitution stipulates freedom of religion not freedom from religion. Ms. O'Donnell's openness about her faith puts her in a position to be held to a higher standard. Some previous comments have mentioned this. That's not a bad thing, that's a good thing.
Politicians have, for the most part, ceased being public servants. They see the populace as their servants instead of the other way around. We need higher accountability. The Christian faith's definition of leadership is servant leadership. That's what we need for this nation to turn it around. A healthy dose of term limits to prevent career politicians who become more concerned with reelection than representing their constituency, and a servant's heart to serve the populace.
Ms. O'Donnell may or may not be the best example of a Christian. (No one, not even Christians, are perfect.)The question we need to ask is, "Is Ms. O'Donnell, as a Christian, with her flaws, better suited to serve in terms of having a servant's heart and being held to a higher standard, than someone who is simply another politician?"
As it is now, the standard politicians are held to is abstract and merely utilitarian. This has led to abuse and manipulation of position. We need a higher standard. Ms. O'Donnell may not measure up to that standard, but at least by considering the higher Christian standard we would be going in the right direction.
Personally, I would rather have an imperfect person in office who is humble, has a strong faith to help when storms inevitably hit, and has a concrete standard to be held accountable to, than someone whose only standard is imperfection without any such standard. All representatives for office are imperfect, but some have standards higher than others. Let's elect the ones with the highest stated standards and then hold them accountable to them.

Sorry I don't know anything about Chtistine but what's mentioned in the articile. However, the past of an individual can shine some light on who they are and what they believe in. We must define politicians by their actions not what they say. There are so many wolves in sheeps clothing. Also the bible says that even Satan himself appears as an angel of light! I hardly think GOD chose her to run. But as Ben franklin declared "that God governs in the affairs of man" Its fine with me that she thinks so. If she is a religeous person and fears GOD then the state of Deleware will benifit greatly from it. But for me I am sick and tired of these Democrats fowl mouth and lying snakes that claim she is a witch or praticed it while she was.... what.... 15 years old? Give me a break, everyone did stupid things growing up. Gee.... maybe the Dems can bring forth the broom she was riding. For the sake of our beloved country I am hoping and praying that GOD will restore our homeland, and that this November we can put this Socialist and Userper in hand cuffs, to where nothing he proposes has a snow balls chance in hell of surviving. We are told to test the spirits and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that's what I do. I haven't had to change my mind about anyone yet. I knew Obama and his minions were bad news from day one.
I have a good feeling about Christine O'Donnell. I think she is true to her faith.
I also love Jay and Jordon Sekulow and I truly appreciate all of their hard work at the Center for Law and Justice! However, I wouldn't recommend writing for such a left-wing publication - as evidenced by the previous comments.

of an expression, while beliefs by some are
foisted. Being in one of the freest countries
on the planet, it is a profound blessing that
we are ALL able to share BOTH openly and honestly.
The fact that some on the left seem
to feel uncomfortable about this, shows
either their lack of maturity, insecurity or
a very hypocritical beliefs that only THEY
are allowed to share opinions and beliefs.
There is also a difference when it comes to a
political CANDIDATE expressing their religious
beliefs and an elected OFFICIAL foisting their
religious views. Personally I want to know
what a political candidates religious beliefs
are. If they truly LIVE BY those beliefs, it
encourages me to vote for them.
If they fail to LIVE BY those beliefs while
in office, I will be the first to call for their resignation or ousting. If they try to FOIST those beliefs on others like the
Taliban does, then I want them out. If they LEAD BY EXAMPLE FROM THEIR BELIEFS, I will support them heart and soul.
This is something that unfortunately many
Democrats DO NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND. And for
the Republicans that don't understand it, "I
will spit you out of my mouth" ( Revelation
3:15-16 ) like the sour fruits you are.
