We're back: Christian conservatives swarm Congress

November 2nd was a historic day for the religious right. Republicans are back in control of the House of Representatives and many social conservatives are heading to the US Senate. Among the 80 new Republicans headed to the House (includes all non-incumbents), American voters elected an estimated 70 new social conservatives. In the Senate, 10 of the 12 new Republicans heading to the US Senate will vote social conservative. If the 3 undecided Senate races break Republican (AK, CO, WA), add at least two more to the social conservative tally.

While the momentous tasks of repealing Obamacare and getting the economy back on track begin today, it would be foolish to overlook the impact these new elected officials will have on social issues. They are pro-life, Constitutional conservatives who are not afraid of a tough fight.

In the House, Tea Party and social conservative activists will expect big things from their new representatives. As of this moment, Republicans have a net gain of 60 new seats in the House and are on track to have a 43-seat majority. With a powerful Republican majority in the House, grassroots activists will want to see the change they voted for go into action immediately. The "we'll do what we can but we didn't win the Senate" excuse will not cut it with the grassroots voters. We expect House Republicans, and those moderate Democrats who got elected by running against Obama, to go head-to-head with the President's agenda.

Sarah Palin captured the sentiment of the grassroots movement that swept the nation Tuesday. Palin declared, "No more business as usual. We are not embracing status quo anymore."

If you believe that President Obama's toughest battle will be in the House, you are wrong. The Senate, although remaining under Democrat control, has the filibuster. With what will shake out to be 47 or 49 Republicans in the Senate, a net gain of 6 or 8, no legislation will pass unless it is truly bipartisan.

Progressives, it is time for a gut-check. Your lock on grassroots activism is long gone. The American people have rejected the liberal agenda and have voted to stop it.

President Obama and Democrats will try to stamp the obstructionist label on Republicans in Congress. The American people have spoken; they want the Obama agenda put on hold indefinitely. Congressman John Boehner, who will likely be the next Speaker of the House, said Monday, "Mr. President, there's a word for people who have the audacity to speak up in defense of freedom, the Constitution, and the values of limited government that made our county great. We don't call them 'enemies.' We call them patriots.'"

On Election night, Boehner took to the stage after Republicans officially won enough seats to take the House and said, "It's clear tonight who the winners really are and that's the American people."

Welcome to the middle class revolution.

we had to suffer through another four years of seeing his smug, evil grin

"Evil"? Let's try to keep some perspective. While I detested Clinton's lying to the grand jury about Lewinsky, we're not talking about a hellspawn or even a James Bond villain. I would only use the word "evil" for his grin if he shot deadly fire from his mouth, or if his teeth were dripping with blood from eating live puppies.

Thank God, he still cares about this nation. I almost thought that He had given up and thrown us to the wolves. Now I can sleep again at night. There is hope where there was none. I can make plans for the future now. I am sure that many other small businessmen feel the same way. There should be an immediate upward surge in the economy, based on hope and carried out through careful plans made by businesspeople while sitting things out. My future is so bright I must wear sunglasses. Let us not give Obama the credit when things improve, like we did with Bill Clinton when he was controlled by Republicans in the House and Senate and he got re-elected, and we had to suffer through another four years of seeing his smug, evil grin on the covers of gossip magazines in grocery checkout lines. God forbid the American people forget this nightmare too quickly. Amen (Greek for "so be it").

NO HONEST BIBLE-BELIEVING FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST WANTS ANYTHING TO DO WITH A "NATIONAL RELIGION, OR, A U.S. GOVERNMENT SANTICTIONED CHURCH. WHAT THEY DO WISH FOR THEMSELVES AND ALL AMERICANS IS A RETURN TO CHRISTIAN CIVILITY, MORALITY, HONESTY, INTEGRITY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND DECENCY.

No religion has exclusive title to those values, and disagreeing with Christianity doesn't mean that one opposes those values. Arguments to the contrary are slaps in the faces of Americans of other religions. It's misleading to define the issue narrowly as having a national religion or a officially sanctioned church. It's really about the government showing favoritism toward some religions over others (such as "Under God" in the Pledge) or the government pushing some religions onto citizens (such as the old practice of mandatory prayer in public school classrooms).

The question of whether any particular moral teachings come from gods is not a matter for government to decide. There's nothing unconstitutional about a particular religion's moral teaching becoming secular law as long as the law also has a secular basis. That means that the law must be able to stand on its own outside of all religions. It means that one shouldn't have to believe or not believe in a particular religion's gods or miracles to either endorse or reject the law. Secularism is not opposition to all religion but a neutral position among all religions.

And James Dobson has long discredited himself by his ugly statements about women being created inferior with the purpose of being subservient to men. The idea of one gender ranking above the other in the social hierarchy is deeply immoral.

Thank you Jordan for expressing the views of millions of Christian conservatives. It is unfortunate that Harry Reid is still in the Senate and majority leader, but God willing in 2012 we will finish the twin jobs of making Reid the minority leader and retiring Obama. If God willing we do that, we can accomplish 100% of the job that remains to be done, namely reversing the damage already done by the Obama agenda.
To do this the Republicans need to stay true to conservative ideas as promised in their campaigns.
In Marco Rubio, we have a potential new superstar who will help us to bring a lot of the Hispanic vote to our side. Hispanics are for God and country which make them conservative by nature and in the past they have been hoodwinked into looking to the Democrats for their support.

SiouxCro1:

Very well said. You speak with such wisdom.

I look at this election and President Obama's somewhat bewildered reaction is curious. If he could be likened to a ship Captain, it is as if he woke up on election day and declared a mutiny. How could this possibly happen.. and yet, it was consistently happening this way all along. The American people were truly growing restless, irritable, and seriously discontent, with their leader who appeared to not be listening. I think that it will be very trying and tricky indeed for President Obama in the next few years, as he attempts to negotiate with the additional agenda of the Republicans. (After all, did he not previously indicate they are the true hidden troublemakers of this country.. likening them to dogmatic stalkers (my words, not his) who would argue with anything and everything, the color of the sky included, just to provide an opposing viewpoint.) Is this poetic justice, the hands of God moving at a time when so many are mocking His very existence in this country.? I'm at a loss in understanding how one poster believes that we will *sigh* likely, sadly lose Obamacare, i.e. those wonderful healthcare benefits for all Americans, including those with previous conditions, the financially unfortunate, etcetera.. Obamacare is not, to my knowledge, a free service provided to the financially less fortunate; it comes with a price, and those who cannot afford the price of costly healthcare would be imposed upon with subsequent, severe financial penalties/fines... In an economy that is sinking, can we please prevent the equivalent result of another Titanic. American companies are being placed in a difficult hardship as well with extra coverage for employees. I would not realistically expect a government run program to truly be of benefit to a chronically ill individual with pre-existing conditions, either. If anything, the treatment for such individuals would be slowed down even further by red tape .. and in the majority of terminally ill cases, time is definitely not on their side. The pro-abortion aspect is a further thorn, the moral equivalent of a wild card without redemption, and as a Christian (Lutheran) I believe that God will make His will known in this matter. It is true though that we should continually pray for our leader; and I think that President Obama would now agree more than ever that he really needs our prayers. With so many Republicans in the judicial mix, this new political reality probably seems a lot like an extension of Halloween to him, minus the treats. Ironically, this is precisely how aspects of government were looking to countless Americans, and of course, particularly to conservative Republicans. Hopefully, both parties can find a way to productively work a balancing act together, collectively ironing out their obvious differences. The future of America is at stake for all Americans, irregardless of party and religion, we are all in this together.

Perhaps I am in la la land; however, Christianity is a way to lead one's life and is guided by the principles set forth in the greatest book ever written and the only one to long endure this long. Hence, it obvious that those like the amoeba in office and Pelosi, the rest like them are not of the Christian faith. Now, if you say you are Lutheran or Baptist, whatever, that is another horse of a different color. Churches, in today's world are small bureaucracies and as such, are ran more like a business than a church. In the Mormon religion you even are prejudged and can be kicked out of the church walls which is a no no within the walls of the Bible! The point being, it is a nice thing to attend church and be with others that you are hopeful believe as yourself, yet, as in all churches and with all humans, we are all hypocrites in one way or another.
If we lived the teachings within the walls of the Bible, we would not have fear in our nation that we now are forced to bear each and every minutes of our lives....Prayers...............

after reading the foregoing comments I think many of you need to go back and read about the religious affiliation of the founding fathers, most of them were diast, I think you need to read the first paragraph of the Tripoli Accord written by none other than George Washington, I think if you do this you will discover that this nation was not founded as a christian nation, if you read the Constitution you will not se anywhere in it the mention of God, Jesus Christ, Christianity, or the bible and there was a very good reason for that to these men christianity and religion were the same and they equald the state telling you how to live what to believe and what to think all in the name of christianity ie the church. so before you go spouting off about how we are returning to the christian nation of our fore fathers maybe just maybe you should study up on exactly what the founding fathers did believe and want for this great nation of ours, then tel me if you still think this country was founded as a christian nation.

It is a great day when the left wing is thrown out of office. The Socialist takeover of America has failed. The American people, should know that the left wing, hates America, they offer nothing but retreat and failure. Thank God, America woke up before the left wing could do any more damage to this country...

This is just a beginning. Now those newly-elected people need to walk the talk, so to speak. They need to be held accountable for the changes they said they wished to see. And they need to remember it is not just about money and politics. It is about significant life issues, and other moral issues.

Just an added observation. We all have a right to choose and make mistakes. If you study the "faith and the mustard seed" concept, Jesus didn't refer to the "size" of the mustard seed when he talked about "faith." He was telling us the mustard seed had something he was calling faith. Every seed has within it the "life of God." I am a wheat farmer and a retired "business systems analyst." A wheat seed has something we call the "germ." When it is put in good soil and watered it will "germinate" and bring forth new life and produce a crop, replicating itself 30, 60 or a 100 fold. Jesus was telling us that if we "let" our faith [the faith God placed within each of us] germinate, it will grow and move mountains. But we as the human creation of our Creator God have been given a "will" to choose and make mistakes. It is part of the "love" equation. Love can't be forced. It is a "function" of choice. God is love. He wants his human creation to love Him in response to his love for us. But we make mistakes and even when we agree on some things, we have many places that we all come from and don't agree on all things. But "in love" we can approach the problem and if we each desire the "best" for one another, we can "give" and take in hope of arriving at the best for all of us.

It's a start! We've gone so far left, the correction will take a lot of "hard right" rudder. In an airplane, when you "stall" and hit a hard right or left rudder, it usually results in a "tailspin." We've got to get the "nose down" first to prevent a tailspin.

I am amazed at the antagonistic comments
noted on some of the postings.
We were founded as a Christian Nation
although one of our founders was Islam who
later converted.
The latest election is showing the grass
roots want to go back to where the Founding
Fathers started, who by the way have become
slandered thru time. They were much more
religious than they are given credit for now.
This election is a start. We do need to pray daily for our leaders, who may be
good or bad. We need to stay involved &
regain being a righteous nation.
God will only hold His rath back for a time.
God is not a socialist & when our country
started out as a community they almost all
died. Not untill they took care of themselves did they thrive.
This government's role is to protect us
from within & without but NOT provide our
daily substinance. That is our job. It is
the job of Charitable Organizations to care
for the needy who Jesus said we will always
have.
Right now our country is on life support due to our sin of abortion & throwing God
out of the schools & government.

@Tony55398 I am amazed by your erroneous comment. You said "Did you know that God is a soialist. His reward is the same for all those who follow Him, no favorites." I would suggest that you study God's Word before you presume to know His ways.

Salvation is not earned...it is a free gift through faith. But REWARDS, on the other hand, now that's a horse of a different color.

Rev. 22:12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me to repay everyone according to his work."

Matthew 16:27 "For the Son of Man is going to come in His Father's glory with His angels, and then He will reward each person according to what he has done."

Many other verses cover rewards in the afterlife, though space does not permit me to list them.

My thoughts concerning the election: I am not as excited about the Republican takeover as I am about the success of the Tea Party. If you strip away the labels and all negative commentary by the left, you simply have a group of American people who are finally saying "We're not gonna take it anymore." They want their voice to be heard and things are really happening as a result. I would never have thought to see this in my lifetime. I find it deliciously refreshing. I hope they continue to keep themselves in the forefront and that their ranks will only grow and not diminish in the coming years. Long Live the Tea Party.

The United States of America is a melting pot. No surprise. Now, up until very recently, ALL imigrants without fail knew they were headed for a Christian nation if they choose to atempt to relocate in the U.S. of A ! Of course, they also knew that NO OTHER COUNTRY was as accepting of each of their cultures, religions and customs AS LONG AS THEY UNDERSTOOD THAT FIRST LOYALITY AS A COUNTRY WAS TO THE U.S. Also, these folks for well over 200 years clearly knew that Christians built this country, including most of it's colleges, hospitals, orphanages, etc ... these folks had but to read all the inscriptions all over the buildings and monuments in our capitol. Last but not least, these new-comers knew that our laws were based on God's law, directly from Scripture, and they knew that these laws were by far better and fair and proper for EVERYONE'S MUTUAL BENEFIT. These folks would NEVER think of trying to pass any law at any level of government in the U.S. that in any way contridicted God's laws. Just made good sense ... GOOD COMMON SENSE !
Now fast forward to the 1960s ... anything goes, right? Dr. James Dobson a couple years ago wrote a short letter explaining that today's social problems and ills can be directly traced to the moral breakdown of the flower power - drug laced 60s culture of the youth (and not so young) of that era. A giant leap forward - and, we also now have the means (the grassroots teaparty movement) to actively monitor, then applaud or censor, the actions of the newly-elected "Constitutionalists."
And, the shift in governorships /legislatures /judgeships is remarkable and striking, as well!
But we have only just begun this march - stay tuned!!

The conservatives that were elected on November 2, 2010 represent a movement back to our roots as a nation, particularly that the Constitution is the covenant that the founding fathers and the American people agreed to abide by as a nation. The American people have been guilty of taking for granted for much too long, the liberties afforded citizens in the constitution by allowing officials in the three branches of our government to do everything from compromise to out right ignoring the Constitution. This election has shown that America has awakened and realized that she must cleanse her government of all that do not uphold the constitution, from the small town mayor to the president of the United States. This new Congress is going to be scrutinized and held accountable by the American people like never before. The days of blindly trusting our elected officials is over.

Equating political conservatism with Christianity and political liberalism with anti-Christianity is inaccurate. There are plenty of conservatives who belong to other religions or to no religion, and plenty of liberals who are Christian. I've met people who fit both descriptions. The equation is also dangerous because it tethers religions to specific political positions, leaving no room for debate or disagreement. Two people with the same religious beliefs can disagree on the merits of a particular piece of legislation, and the disagreement doesn't mean one of them is less faithful or less sincere in his or her beliefs.

PTL, the silent majority are no longer silent. That is the one good thing Obama has accomplished, waking up Christian America ! I hope the remaining Democrats, those who were not up for reelection got the message and know they need to start representing the people they have been fooling for a long time.

The election proved that they can no longer say one thing and do another. People can read a voter record and they are. They do not want a socialist government anymore than the christian right or the Republican party does. Many christian Democrats are switching over because they see what their party has become. It is no longer the party their grandfather's supported.

The truth is their grandfather's never really knew who they were supporting or what they really stood for.
It was the Republican's who drafted the Equal Rights Amendment and had to talk Kennedy into signing it. Look it up.

Just because the liberals have twisted and deleted history , rewritten history books, and made false claims does not change the facts. This country was founded by christians who fought a tyrantical King for religeous and other freedoms. Our constitution was based on biblical principles which acknowledged the God of the Bible as soverign over all men and governments whether they acknowledge him or not.
Those who hate this fact and want to destroy all records and reminders of our nations history are those we fight now to hold on to it. I pray we will never go to sleep again and let the enemy gain such a stronghold. We still have a long way to go to bring America back to a country with Godly laws and the freedom and justice that ensures.
This is what we must do, failure to do so is no option that we can live with.

Jordan Sekulow, your efforts with ACLJ are greatly appreciated, keep up the good work.

I'm not necessarily with you on that it was strictly a Christian awakening, but it is a conservative awakening and movement.

However Christians are very accepting of all people, contrary to the liberal bias.

Bad things happen when good people and Christians sleep and do nothing.

This fight is never ending and most of all Christians should be aware of that fact.

Evil is always waiting on the fringe to consume those that flirt with moral degradation.

A standard is raised and we must always keep up the fight and never grow weary.

We must always invite and recruit with respect for the common cause of conservatism, because not all are Christian.

God should be always paramount in every decision, regardless of what liberals think.

For God is moral and just, able to keep all of us all no matter what.

Keep fighting the good fight.

The new Republicans will be expected to work hard and endure an enormous amount of criticism.

However, Christians must not sit back and believe that they voted and their work is done. Our job is to faithfully pray for ALL our leaders in Washington(Yes, that includes President Obama, his cabinet and the Democratic Congress). That God's will be done through our elected leaders and that as a country we value and uphold the name of His son Jesus the Christ.

Our work as Christians is being a blessing to our communities through service, prayer, and declaring the gospel in the name of our Lord Jesus the Christ. Respecting and loving non-believers while praying that God touches them with His holy message of the gospel.

Yes you are back, and as soon as this new swarm of Elmer Gantry types start mouthing off to the press, moralizing, doing and saying stupid things - just like they always do - then the vaunted "American people" of which you are so fond at the moment will tune you out again and then throw you out of office, and you can go back to your closets and pray once again for discernment. Perhaps this time, if you'll shut your big fat mouths for just a few moments, you'll actually hear what God has been saying to you all along.

The "Christian nation" notion is fundamentally incompatible with full citizenship for non-Christians, either in law or in spirit. It strongly implies means that non-Christians are seen as not fully American, or as inconveniences who are only here because of the grudging tolerance of Christians. Worse, it can imply that non-Christians aren't patriots and don't deserve the same rights as Christians. The true American principle is that each citizen is fully American no matter what his or her beliefs about religion. The idea that any one religion has a special place among others in America is most definitely ANTI-American.

I myself am very hopeful as I have been praying for more God fearing men and women in congress. If everyone would just wake up and realize we will all give an account to God one day for everything we say and do in this life, I think people would make wiser choices and not abuse God's grace so badly. We sure could use God's help in this nation and world so I believe this is a big step in the right direction. Lord help us all!

Oh, Lefties, BTW - If 53% of the nation voted Obama in, how is it that we are racist now? This is the logic of the Left. Change the facts to match your argument.

Wow! Such remarks dripping of hate and sarcasm. Much of it coming from people who call themselves Christians and claim to know what Christ believes and stands for. Hearing these remarks, I wonder if any, especially those who call themselves Christian have ever read a bible and understood it. These truly are evil days when the Word of God is misused, misrepresented, and misunderstood. God is loving and God is forgiving. But God is also Holy. That is His nature. He is very specific about good and evil. Virtue and sin. He is longsuffering and tolerant. So much more than what I have seen displayed here by these hateful comments. He gives us all ample opportunity to turn to Him seeking forgiveness and He is a rewarder of those who seek Him with a whole heart. But He also has warned us over and over again in His word what happens if we persist in walking in opposition to Him. If we choose to remake Him in our image instead of us conforming to His....

Mat 15:17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated?
Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.
Mat 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.
Mat 15:20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man."

I do not believe we are back. Washington is like a black hole, it devours everything that enters. There are many things at this point that can be done because the house controls the purse strings. But I belive the Republicans are weak and scared and don't want to rock the boat. They have the power to vertually elimante the NEA, CFTC (which is worthless I am a trader) and a multitude of all unconstitutional offices but I am betting they won't. And as for those so called gay people who judge human rights attorneys. Un-natural perverted sex acts are not protected by the constitution but the family is. It seems to me instead of doing your thing you are trying to force that abnormal behavior and yes psychologist have dtermined that behavior is psychotic on us and some of us find that behvior revolting. America is a Christian nation but we have a lot of problems and we are rising to the occasion. With the influx of candidates, you will find real prolife patriots going to battle for our constitution and the Holy Bible, who are sick and tired of "political correctness" We want freedom which includes our freedom to worhip our God and follow His teachings. Even though we stumble and fall , America was founded upon the Bible. If that is not your "book" then you are free to go to any other country you would like, but here in American we are standing for Freedom and the Constitution. Any other international laws or "laws" outside the US constitution will remain effective outside the United States of American. Thank God for the Oklahoma legislature who had the "guts" to pass a law demanding that at least for Oklahoma , the Constitution would be thir basis for law and nothing else. God bless Oklahoma and continue to bless America as we elect more Conseratives to Congress. The answer for America and the whole world Is Jesus Christ, who gave his life that we might live.

This election was a good start. Now those elected must begin the hard work of pulling the country back from the brink of socialism. They must stand strong. They must remember the people who put them in the office and not fall for the shenanigans of the DC insiders or the pressure of the media. They must do everything in their power to undo the damage done by the Obama Administration. Repeal health care, shrink government and stand for the Constitution.
As to the deficit, if they reign in the everincreasing spending (for example: 200 million a day for a trip to India) the massive paperwork making regulations that hamper and strangle our American businesses, go back to only the amount of Federal Government allowed by the Constitution (the states can deal with everything else) we will find there is a lot of money to reign in the deficit and the jobs making businesses will be freed up to create more jobs and products.
Its a lot like a tree if the top is bigger than the roots it will topple. The branches of Government must be clipped and the power returned to the roots; until we again have a government of the people by the people and for the people.

WE, THE PEOPLE, HAVE SPOKEN LOUD!

and we have spoken loud enough, the loudest since the late 1920's, to state that there is no room for "compromise" with obama's communism and pelosi's fascism and reed's socialism !

and rightly so, for it is written:
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"
2Cr 6:14

and have no doubt about it: obama and his cohorts, like stalin and marx and tse-tung, etal, are unbelievers, unrighteous, dark and evil...
this historic election further rebukes obama and his earlier statement that the United States is not a Christian Nation...

we have won the first battle for america's soul...but this is no time to rest on laurels: the war is just beginning...and we must not let up now that we have the upper hand and gained the momentum...
yes, that's right: we "have not yet begun to fight" for america's soul....
http://www.history.navy.mil/trivia/trivia02a.htm

and make no mistake about it: those in power will not give up easily - they will not step down without a fierce fight!

the democrats and their communist ideologies have been crushed, and the message to the republicans is: NO COMPROMISE - not even an inch - NONE !

We will recover, regardless of who's in Congress. I hope that what you're saying about the abuse of the filibuster is wrong, and that Congress won't be in gridlock for at least the next two years. But, its nice to hear that you're so excited about the potential of a congressional shutdown. I hope the new members of Congress will respond to the frustrated electorate and actually work on negotiating. But I guess we all hope for different things.

Also, thanks for the welcome to the "middle class," millionaire radio talk show host.

And lastly, the chances of having healthcare repealed in full are absolutely zero. But good luck with your petition.
