Imam Rauf should not be held responsible for controversy

In a recent Wall Street Journal article, terrorism analyst Evan Kohlmann said that anti-Muslim rhetoric in America is bad news for anti-terrorism efforts: "We are handing al Qaeda a propaganda coup, an absolute propaganda coup."

By many accounts, the man who could blunt the power of that coup is Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the religious leader behind the planned Islamic Center near Ground Zero. The imam has been surprisingly mum on the issue while he travels in the Middle East. What message of faith could he offer to Muslims and non-Muslims alike that could turn this moment of division into a time of healing?

The controversy was not generated by Imam Rauf so why should he be held responsible for putting an end to it? The whole thing was created by the Republicans supported by a media hungry for ratings and the consequences lie squarely on their shoulders. It is not just about the mosque near Ground Zero but mosques in Tennessee, Arizona and California that have been opposed by the right.

Imam Rauf was selected by President Bush to go out into the Muslim world and change their impressions of the United States. He continues on this mission under the present administration. Besides, he is not the only one who believes that we are in this mess today largely because of our arrogant misuse of the CIA in the conflict in Afghanistan when the Russians were trying to invade and take over. The whole world knows about this but our ultra-nationalistic right-wing and their supporters behave like ostriches and pretend as though we are innocent. We can fool the world once, not all the time.

Those who started this controversy and continue to whip it into a frenzy have no thought for our troops, and Gen. Petreius, who are valiantly trying to win a war in Afghanistan by convincing the people there that we mean well and are sacrificing our youth so that they can look forward to a better life. This controversy and the senseless idea of remembering 9/11 by burning the Koran proves to the Muslim world that we are arrogant and expect the world to kiss our feet. It has only given Bin Laden and his organization more power to recruit people to fight against us. The responsiblity to defuse this controversey and apologize profusely to our soldiers lies squarely on the right wing knuckle-heads who started it.

THE QURAN

The Quran appears to be a mass of contradictions. On the one hand, it says:

https://answeringislam.org/Nehls/Ask/war.html //answering islam.org/Nehls/Ask/war.html

"The Holy Quran strictly prohibited conversion by force, saying: '”There is no compulsion in religion'—(Sura 2:256)" That has to be a joke, or someone sure is playing a joke on the Christians and Jews. In Lebanon, the violence is Muslim on Muslim.

"When an infidel's country is conquered (in self-defense) by a Muslim ruler, its inhabitants are offered three alternatives:

1.The reception of Islam, in which case the conquered became enfranchised citizens of the Muslim state.

2. The payment of a poll tax (Jazyah) by which unbelievers in Islam obtained "protection" and become Zimmis, provided they were not idolaters (of Arabia).

3. Death is by the sword to those who would not pay the poll tax. ("Dictionary of Islam", page 243).

"Kill those who join other gods with Allah wherever you find them; besiege them, seize them, lay in wait for them with every kind of ambush...."(Sura 9:5).

"WHEN YOU ENCOUNTER THE UNBELIEVERS, STRIKE OFF THEIR HEADS, UNTIL YE HAVE MADE A GREAT SLAUGHTER AMONG THEM...."(SURA 47:4).

No one cares where the Muslims have a Mosque except when the Mosque is used as a propaganda piece to cause discord. No Muslim would allow a Jew to build a temple next to a Mosque in any of the dominated Moslem countries. Religion isn’t the problem in this imbroglio; the problem is the desecration of a designated sacred memorial by the insistence on building a Mosque that impugns its sanctity..

There is plenty of religious tolerance in America, probably too much; there is none in Moslem dominated countries and little even in Israel by Jews as well. Can you honestly visualize a Jewish or Catholic Church in Mecca built next to the birthplace of Mohammad?

Can you explain this Quran violence and its contradictions?

ANS:
My dear friend, are you living in the real world? Seventy percent of Americans are against this arrogant attempt to build a Mosque next to the 9/11 memorial. There are 13 Mosque in, or nearby, New York City; America is not bigoted.

If you haven’t read yet, nearly 3,000 Americans were killed by MUSLIM terrorists. The Mosque is no more than an “In Your Face”, statement to the families of 9/11 and many Americans.

The Imam blames the 9/11 murders on America; he claims America created bin Laden. So much said for the Imam Bridge Builder.

New York is not Republican, it is overwhelmingly Democrat. However, Republicans are not proscribed from having opinions. The Mayor is a liberal Republican maverick and the NY Governor is Democrat. Seventy percent of Americans who are against this imbroglio are not all Republicans; they are an amalgamation of Americans of all ideologies and political expressions.

“Protests were initially sparked by a campaign launched by bloggers Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, critics of Islam and founders of the group Stop Islamization of America. Before Geller's campaign, response to the 'Park 51' project was not pronounced, and even 'conservative commentators' [a.k.a. Republicans] provided largely positive coverage.

"New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former Mayor Rudolph Guiliani voiced their opinions for and against alongside national figures such as President Barack Obama, former Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich." Their opinions are not as Republicans but as Americans.

"Polling has demonstrated that a 'majority' of both Americans and New York State and New York City residents oppose the construction...

"While a majority of Manhattan residents support the project, prominent supporters and opponents of the project can be found among the families of the 9/11 victims, the domestic and international Muslim community, and local and national politicians making it a divisive political campaign issue in the 2010 midterm elections.”

The protest is not a Republican cabal, but an American multicultural federation of patriots who love and defend their country. Finally, something has united Americans against the PC crowd who see no evil, hear no evil, but condone all that is evil.

ANS:
That’s absurd. To the contrary, is there no other place this Mosque can be built? What is the urgency that this Mosque be built in a spot that unnecessarily causes angst and anguish to so many Americans? Even the Democrat Governor of NY offered to find another place but the Imam wouldn’t even acknowledge his offer.

The irony is for a religion that shows no tolerance to cry for tolerance it already has. It appears to be a call for a tolerance not of religion but for violence emulated by the Imam's inexplicable request for Sharia Law. Notwithstanding, there seems to be an implicit call for the tolerance of the terrorists.

Moreover, it is ludicrous for the Imam to absurdly claim his purpose is bridge building in the face of his insistence for the patent insensitivity he displays for the 9/11 victims and their families.

In addition, this insistence on tolerance seems to include a tolerance for the terrorists who can be said acting in accord with the Quran that apparently teaches an acceptance of their acts of terror.

There are three hundred million Dalit, most of them in India, but many in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal. The Dalit (trans. "oppressed") were formerly called the "untouchables." They are raped, lynched, human sacrificed, bought and sold, indentured, confined generation after generation to inhuman labor. Click on the link. Help.
