Yes, in tough times, those with resources ought to share them with those who are in need, not because Caesar orders us to, but because, as people of faith, God's compassion and love for the downtrodden compels us.

I forgot to add: you may want to suggest to Cal Thomas that God's compassion for the downtrodden compels us to help, regardless of the reason why they are downtrodden. Hungry is hungry, regardless of how you got there.

I am in total agreement on that, though I have no problem if Caesar takes some more money from me to get us all through this disaster that the Bush administration has bequeathed us.
