Devil's Work Is Hard to Deny
When a mentally retarded woman has a bomb strapped to her waist, is led into a crowd of innocent civilians, and by remote control that bomb is detonated, it is hard for me to imagine how anyone could deny the reality of evil as a real, objective fact.
As a Bible-believing Christian, I believe Satan, the embodiment of evil, is a fallen angel or spirit. He is an unseen force, as is God -- but no less real. Visit Darfur or any other of the sites in recent years where genocide has been committed, and you should have no trouble believing in the reality of Satan.

Chuck, seriously, that was the worst article ever. 2 paragraphs of totally unsubstantiated garbage. A child could have made a better arguement.
Everything good = God
Everything bad = Satan
Thus Satan exists.
why do u not think those acts in Darfur are simply the work of sick men? Or is that too reality based for you?
Grow up dude.

Well while it is very truth that Darfur is a very clear ilustration. Lets not forget our own yard. The recents shootouts in Pittsburg, NY and other cities. Lets not forget the more than 15,000 murders commited in this country every year.
But of course, we should always remember the violence that has been a trait for most of our history.

Dear Mr. Colson...I respect your opinions and beliefs. I am curious, however. Do you believe in God and Satan only because you are a "bible believing christian", or because you have had actual experiences that brought you to that conclusion.
My recollection is that your conversion to Christianity was rather sudden and made known to the public to read about, and happening nearly 40 years ago. I look forward to a reply, and thank you in advance. Best regards.

"Devil's Work Is Hard to Deny"
------------------------
And even harder to prove as you have so aptly demon-strated (pun intended)!

There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven, no hell, no soul, all stem from the infantile mind of our superstitious ancestors. That an adult could believe in such nonsense today is extraordinary. But it is also a dangerous delusion, as it removes from the individual the need for personal moral responsibility. Religion in all its odious variants does nothing but perpetrate ignorance often under the guise of fake morality. Humankind will never grow up until we are rid of religion and the shamans who prosper on the back of it.

Tell you what, though, 'Reverend.' Once the *seen* forces about Darfur are accounted for, how bout *then* we talk about some others you postulate. Now that your righteous guy ain't in office.

"When a mentally retarded woman has a bomb strapped to her waist, is led into a crowd of innocent civilians, and by remote control that bomb is detonated, it is hard for me to imagine how anyone could deny the reality of evil as a real, objective fact."
Actually, Reverend, I think *only* the idea of fighting 'Evil' could induce someone to strap a bomb to a 'mentally-retarded' woman's waist, then do all the rest.
Also makes me question the mental acuity of anyone who goes to all that trouble to involve someone 'mentally retarded' in a remote control bombing scheme.
Even if you presume some kind of cunning plan of evil, I'm not sure how working her body into the mix enhances the diabolicalness.
Or virtue, depending who says what is abstractly 'evil.'
I used to fight what you call 'evil' a bit more actively, Reverend, and by the Gods I'm glad that if there's any 'guiding intelligence' behind it, '
It's not very bright.
I think I have a simpler answer:
If you convince people to fear a 'Satan' enough, they'll strap bombs to people to make some kind of point about it.
Reverend.

God is not responsible nor accountable for the actions of men upon other men.
Mr Colson showed his myopic, superificial nationalist worldview by reducing 'the Devil' to be associated with political events in various unstable, distant warring parts of the world.
But the "Devil" has an army throughout the world, including in America, including in Mr Colson's neighborhood. The 'Devil''s first and foremost goal, because he despises mankind, is to turn mankind away from belief and obedience to God. Even those people who obey the Devil, are in fact hated by the Devil.
Of the most significant issues which the Devil promotes among mankind is the association of others with God, whether that's idol worship, or man being percieved as godlike. For example, Rush Limbaugh promotes himself as 'All Knowing', 'All Seeing'. These are God's attributes. No man realistically has these attributes. A man who claims these attributes daily has inspiration from the Devil, even if he excuses this as satire.
In the end, the Devil is a scientient, thinking being with its own freewill. The Devil, or Satan, is from an older species than humans, called jinn in arabic, or genie. The jinn were created before mankind an dominated the earth and were in God's favor before mankind came about. The jinn, including Satan himself, even was in presence of the angels and talked with God until mankind was created. Satan and his followers thought they were better than mankind and vowed to turn mankind away from God.
Today, many rulers and world leaders invoke these same sentiments to fellow men- saying they are better and seeking to turn men away from God.

"how anyone could deny the reality of evil as a real, objective fact."
That's not quite the question. It depends on your definition of 'evil'. If evil =a very bad thing, then fine. That very bad things occur does not mean, and certainly does not prove that there is a cosmic, mythical, supernatural unified dark force controlling all very bad things.
"Visit Darfur or any other of the sites in recent years where genocide has been committed, and you should have no trouble believing in the reality of Satan"
Nor the callous disregard for human life and suffering that your god has for those victims.

the taking of innocent lives is a sin. agreed.
and, taking advantage of a person that may not be in a state to give good judgement, whether they are in starvation, under threat, etc. to take innocent lives is evil, imho.
i also believe that flying a drone or using a smart bomb to kill innocent lives in the process of hunting an enemy is evil. it is also cowardly and a waste of tax money.
