Abolition of Nukes Supremely Admirable

Q: Reacting in part to recent missile tests by Iran and North Korea, President Obama and a unanimous UN Security Council last week endorsed a sweeping strategy to halt the spread of nuclear weapons and ultimately eliminate them. Is nuclear disarmament a religious issue? Is it a pro-life issue? Is support for nuclear disarmament a moral imperative? Should we pray for nuclear disarmament?

The issue of disarmament (a nuclear-free world) is first and foremost a religious issue. One has only to read Matthew 5:9, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

One fully expects the usual anti-Obama cabal inevitably to be critical of his efforts for a nuclear-free world, partly, if not wholly, for other reasons. These gloomy naysayers need some advice. Those who can not support President Obama because he inherited his blackness from his father surely ought to support him because he inherited his whiteness from his mother. Then, Hail to the Chief, our first completely American president. What America has carried on its coinage is coming true, E Pluribus Unum. God be praised!

Hello Paarsurrey,

I like most of your posts, so thank you for them. Yet this last one is clearly neither workable or equitable.

"Nukes" have served as a threat and deterrent against aggression. They have not but twice served as the weapon they were designed to be, thank God. The track record of the countries that have nuclear weapons in their arsenals shows that they have 'acted responsibly' and have refrained completely from use of those weapons, assuming that Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the debut and curtain, on the world stage, of this form of destructive force.

Some of the countries that are seeking currently to acquire nuclear weapons have no such history of stability or intent for worldwide advancement.

A nuclear armed Iran, North Korea, Somalia..... without the counterweight of nuclear deterrence from the 'free world' would be a catastrophe for this world. Not equitable.

Salaam.

Hi friends

I think abolition of nukes should start in the order the countries acquired the nukes; that is equitable.

Otherwise it won't work.

I love Jesus and Mary as mentioned in Quran.

Thanks

For those who know Dr. Taylor recognizes his incisive wry whit and use of classic Frederick Douglass's use of irony, and signficiation to say that a nuclear - free world obviously is biblical. Perhaps Taylor implies, other factors seem to fuel resistance to the president's nuclear free world. As only Taylor can, for example, describing the president's identity as clearly American. Taylor says of Obama, "Those who can not support President Obama because he inherited his blackness from his father surely ought to support him because he inherited his whiteness from his mother." Taylor's Obama truely is a product of America's democracy and therefore, God be praised for Taylor's insight!
