"Where there are Muslims, there are problems"
The New York City community board endorsed the Cordoba House, a community center and mosque planned for construction near Ground Zero.
Significant opposition has emerged against the project. Sarah Palin even weighed in this weekend, tweeting, "Peace-seeking Muslims, pls understand, Ground Zero mosque is UNNECESSARY provocation; it stabs hearts. Pls reject it in interest of healing."
Should there be a mosque near Ground Zero?
Re-posted from Esposito's column at CNN.com
The controversy over Cordoba House is not an isolated event. It is part of a much more far-reaching pattern and problem.Mosque construction in the United States has become a catalyst for increased anti-Islam and anti-Muslim sentiment, discrimination and hate crimes in recent years.
Efforts to construct mosques to accommodate growing Muslim populations have sparked intense opposition. A commentary appearing in the New York Post last month attacked plans to construct mosques in the state of New York:
"...There's no denying the elephant in the room. Neither is there any rejoicing over the mosques proposed for Sheepshead Bay, Staten Island and Ground Zero because where there are mosques, there are Muslims, and where there are Muslims, there are problems."

It is the actions of Muslim terrorists, an understanding of Islamic supremacism, reflection on the dangers of Shariah, the checkered history of Islam's so-called prophet, and the substantial support of Islamic jihad by millions of Muslims around the world are the actual catalysts for anti-Islam and anti-Muslim sentiment. This reaction to the mosque is nothing short of a reaction to actions my Muslims and the ideology of Islam as practiced throughout history.

As a Catholic Christian, I have to think of the situation in some Muslim countries (and certain non Muslim countries) where it is extremely difficult to obtain the permission of the civil authorities to build churches. And the situation in some countries where the predominantly Muslim population treats Christians with hostility--sometimes murderous hostility, even though the Christians are peaceful.
Some of the resistance to mosques being built in communities in the US is understandable and even legitimate. But, to do otherwise can send a wrong message to Muslim nations where there really is not religious freedom, and other faiths are really not free to build houses of worship.
By the way, the Muslims I know are good people who seem frustrated, angered and bewildered by the actions of terrorists.

Reminds me of a scene in the movie Babel when a boy tells a Mexican, "My mom says Mexico is dangerous"
The Mexican replies, "Yes, it is full of Mexicans"

" John Esposito Professor of religion, international affairs and Islamic studies.FOUNDING DIRECTOR, PRINCE ALWALEED BIN TALAL CENTER FOR MUSLIM-CHRISTIAN UNDERSTANDING, GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY John Esposito Professor of religion, international affairs and Islamic studies. "
Does anyone have a phone-number for the PRINCE ALWALEED BIN TALAL CENTER FOR MUSLIM-CHRISTIAN UNDERSTANDING, GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY as I was thinking of visiting Saudi Arabia and was wondering, if they would have a list of Catholic, Protestant, Eastern Orthodox and Coptic Churches in the Kingdom ?

It really should be "Where there is Islam, there are problems". If Esposito could only stop shilling for the petrodollars long enough he would know the difference. Geert Wilders has grasped the central problem clearly:

.... Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities – but the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it.” And Churchill concluded: “No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.”
There are people who say that I hate Muslims. I do not hate Muslims. It saddens me how Islam has robbed them of their dignity. What Islam does to Muslims is visible in the way they treat their daughters. On March 11, 2002, fifteen Saudi schoolgirls died as they attempted to flee from their school in the holy city of Mecca. A fire had set the building ablaze. The girls ran to the school gates but these were locked. The keys were in the possession of a male guard, who refused to open the gates because the girls were not wearing the correct Islamic dress imposed on women by Saudi law: face veils and overgarments.
....
As a Dutch, a European and a Western politician, my responsibility is primarily to the Dutch people, to the Europeans and the West. However, since the liberation of the Muslims from Islam, will benefit all of us, I wholeheartedly support Muslims who love freedom. My message to them is clear: “Fatalism is no option; ‘Inch’ Allah’ is a curse; Submission is a disgrace.
Free yourselves. It is up to you.

Exactly. Liberals constantly accuse America and the West of being sexist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, ethno-nationalist and barbaric for still having capital punishment; while Islamic countries are 10 times worse and it's just a difference in culture.

“…because where there are mosques, there are Muslims, and where there are Muslims, there are problems."
Have you ever wandered why? The short answer is because of their intolerant supremacist ideology. It is impossible to imagine why they would feel superior to anyone when they with their different races, languages and geographies rank at the bottom of scale in every human endeavor.
