Ignorance won't repair climate

Q: In response to Sarah Palin's recent claims that climate change is based on "junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood," Al Gore said that "global warming is not a political issue but a moral one." Which is it? Is it immoral to do nothing about global warming?

To engage Sarah Palin's climate change mentality is to give public ignorance more credibility than it deserves.

A1965BIGDOG, that's a fairly good job of parodying willfully ignorant anti-intellectualism. Add a few more capital letters, exclamation points, misspellings, and random statistics, and no one would know whether it's real or fake.

Yo Yo Gorebal Whiners. Here's one for ya: The geological evidence shows that on multiple occasions over the past million years that sea level has oscillated between 20 feet higher than it is today to 300 feet lower than it is today. It says to me that the climate is highly variable.

Here's the thing. All this that you losers are talking about is normal statistical variation. The sky isn't falling. I do expect that New Orleans, Miami, etc. will sooner or later be inundated as they have been before on multiple occasions, but man has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's all natural.

And last, but not least:

VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!

There are two evidences for global warming that are hard to dismiss and extremely ominous:

1) A ship sailed through the North Pole this summer.

2) A huge chunk of Antarctica, about the size of DC, sailed towards Australia this week, breaking up as it moved further North.

It doesn't matter what the data or theorists say, the unmistakable visual evidence is that the polar caps are melting in their respective summers, something that has never happened before in human history. The fact that they are doing so in the second century of the Industrial Age seems more than a mere coincidence.

Zing! This response suggests another panel question: Why does anti-intellectualism prosper in America?
