Internet Church for Obamas

Barack Obama is the most high tech and Internet savvy politician in American history. So, let's invite the Obamas to experience the Internet Church.

No, this is not a suggestion to distance worship (my father told me that going to church via radio or television is like kissing over the telephone--it's okay but not as good as actually being there). But, it would be an interesting place for the Obamas to begin their church search.

Many churches now video-stream their services over the Internet. And, if the word got out that the Obamas were watching live streaming to find a church home in the Washington area there would quickly be many more church services on line (which would be good for everyone)! This is a relatively inexpensive and simple technology that is within the reach of many churches.

Between now and January 20 the Obamas can visit services on line to find where they might choose to worship each weekend. They can send Secret Service "scouts" and friends to check out whether the congregation provides a secure setting. Once they have decided, they can arrive as a family already well acquainted with the preaching, music and congregation. Also, when the President-elect and his family are unable to attend because they are staying at Camp David or another location they will always be able to gather around a computer screen and participate in real time. They'll never need to miss a service at their new home church.

Choosing a local church within commuting distance of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will send a powerful message to America. President-elect Obama has spoken often of his Christian faith and this will not only ratify and reinforce his faith but encourage millions more Americans to follow his example in regular church attendance.
