Under God bloggers
Michelle Boorstein has been covering religion for The Post since January 2006. She has written about everything from a cult-like leader in Northern Virginia who ran a car ministry and took a "virgin bride" to Pope Benedict's 2008 visit to the United States (for which she got to travel on the plane with him and check out what he eats and who flies with him!). She is very interested in young Muslim-Americans and how the Obama White House manages those thorny church-state issues. She grew up in a conservative Jewish family and was in religious school until college. A year in Israel set off her interest in the Middle East and she has a Master's degree in Near Eastern Studies. She writes God in Government posts.
Elizabeth Tenety is the editor of On Faith. She formerly was producer of Divine Impulses, On Faith's video interview series. She studied Theology and Government at Georgetown University and received her master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. A New York native, Elizabeth grew up in the home of Catholic news junkies where, somewhere in between watching the nightly news and participating in parish life, she learned to ponder both the superficial and the sacred.
David Waters is the former editor of On Faith. He has been blogging for Under God since July 2008. In 2010, he won the Wilbur Award for best newspaper blog. Before coming to the Post, Waters worked for more than 25 years for The Commercial Appeal daily newspaper in Memphis, where he was a columnist, editor and reporter. Waters covered religion for the paper from 1993-2000 and wrote a regular religion column called Faith Matters from 1998-2007. Waters was the American Society of Newspaper Editors' Distinguished Writing Award in 2007 for his religion writing. He won the Wilbur Award for best religion column in 2004. He's also a member of the Scripps Howard Newspapers Editorial Hall of Fame. He grew up in an interfaith household: His father was a Baptist from the South, his mother a mainline Protestant from the North.
