Sign of the (recession) times? Two local church officials accused of theft

By Michelle Boorstein

Two local church economic officials stealing BIG from their own churches?

I'd say this is a sign of the (recession) times, but both cases -- charges filed in recent days -- focus on theft that allegedly happened years ago.

Regardless, the allegations must be demoralizing for churches, which generally are already facing greater need, declining membership and a tougher fundraising climate.

The men charged are accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars for things like down payments on luxury cars, family trips and a wedding reception.
