Some Catholics protest giving Bush a "pro-life" award
By Michelle Boorstein
George W. Bush continues to be great fodder for Catholics -- and others -- trying to broaden the idea of "pro-life."
Bush is being honored today in southern California by a Catholic group called Legatus for his efforts as president to restrict abortions and funding for stem cell research. The group, which brings high-level Catholics from the business and religious worlds. Local media there report some protesters, including Catholics.
Among those weighing in is the advocacy group Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, which works to push more moderate positions on abortion (more focus on supporting pregnant women, less on overturning Roe v Wade, for example) and to organize Catholics behind other social justice issues such as poverty and health care reform.
Their argument isn't new: Is Bush really pro-life when the Iraq war began on his watch? And what about all the executions in Texas?
With the majority of American Catholic voters choosing a president who supports abortion rights (Obama, of course), it's clear Roe vs. Wade is not their only litmus test. But as this evolves, how will it impact the use of the term "pro-life" in politics? Which wars are truly "just" wars? Which type of health care plan is the "pro-life" one?

Abortion really is awful, only efforts of birth control and being responsible can reduce it. It will ALWAYS be around and well ater 8 Weeks that zygote is a Human fetus.
ONLY ONe Company in the World derives its StemCells from an Embryo with out HARMING and or destroying the Embryo and that Company is Called Advanced Cell Technology from Worcester Massachusetts. It is called the Blastomere Process which is IDENTICAL to the IVF process of testing ONE cell from an embryo to ensure it is healthy and then that Embryo is used to form a healthy baby. this process had that ACt uses has given IVF clinics the goal of producing all of these beautiful thousands and thousands of babies.

Honoring George Bush with a “Pro Life Award” is something like honoring an
iceberg for sinking the Titanic--although the cost in human life totals
hundreds of thousands, not hundreds. This is to say nothing of the
millions of lives disrupted, families broken, and horrendous injuries,
both physical and mental.
Aggressive, pre-emptive war is not "pro life." George Bush deserves
conviction for the war crimes of launching it based on lies, causing the
death of over a million people, including thousands of US deaths, sanctioning torture, violating the U.S. Constitution and international law,
and smashing any hopes for world peace for the foreseeable future.

"Is Bush really pro-life when the Iraq war began on his watch? And what about all the executions in Texas?"
Bush is considered pro-life by the people who want to consider him pro-life; he is not considered pro-life by the people who do not want to consider him pro-life.
"But as this evolves, how will it impact the use of the term "pro-life" in politics?"
The term "pro-life" will continue to mean exactly what the user of the term wants it to mean.
"Which wars are truly "just" wars?"
Probably every war is considered truly "just" by at least one person.
"Which type of health care plan is the "pro-life" one?"
Probably every health care plan will be considered "pro-life" by at least one person.

Facts show the truth.
Many more Americans die EVERY day in America due to abortion than in war.
52 million dead Americans since Roe is a lot of missing consumer spending and jobs.
52 million dead Americans since Roe are a lot of never-sold homes, cars, and missing bank customers.
52 million dead Americans since Roe are a lot of missing sympathetic voters and taxpayers.
Forget ex-President Bush.
President Obama, and all people of goodwill, should now embrace and end the federal support of abortion.
The time for change is now.
