Chinese dissident gets religious liberty award
The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention will present the John Leland Religious Liberty Award to Chinese human rights lawyer Dr. Fan Yafeng April 14 at the Capitol Visitor Center.
Dr. Fan is considered a leading expert in Chinese constitutional law and is one of the founding members of the Chinese Christian Rights Defense Lawyers Association. Because Dr. Fan is not permitted to leave China, a special 10-minute recorded video of his remarks will be shown.
"Dr. Fan's courage on behalf of the persecuted church in China has earned him the ire of the Chinese government and the admiration of millions of people of faith who long for freedom from religious persecution. It is an honor to present him with this award for his sacrifice for the persecuted church in China," said Dr. Barrett Duke, vice president for public policy and research at the ERLC.
