Haggards start new church
Ted Haggard, the self-proclaimed penitent sinner, is starting a new church in the Denver area.
"St. James is a church for sinners -- for people who have hit rock bottom and people who want to help people who have hit rock bottom," Haggard said. "Everybody is welcome: Democrats, Republican, Independents, gays, straights, tall, short, addicts and recovering addicts."
Haggard, former president of the National Association of Evangelicals, resigned from his megachurch in disgrace in 2006 after confessing to doing meth and engaging in "sexual immorality" with a male prostitute.
The church's first service will be Sunday morning at the Haggards' home. Gayle Haggard also plans to preach at the church.
