May 21, 2011: The end of the world?
By Elizabeth Tenety
May 21, 2011 is the day that Christian radio broadcaster Harold Camping has calculated to be the biblically-determined date of the rapture. Forget about Armageddon in 2012, according to Mr. Camping, we're not going to make it past 2011.
UPDATE: Dec 2, 12:37 p.m.: 40 billboards were recently posted throughout Tennessee by Camping's supporters. Allison Warden, 29, told the Tennessean, "The Rapture is going to be a great day for God's people but awful for everyone else."
The Tennesee billboards are only the latest in a get-out-the-Good-Word campaign by Camping's followers. In July, an unemployed woman in Colorado has paid $1,200 for a series of ads to be placed at bus stops warning of the impending end of the world. The "Save the Date! Return of Christ: May 21, 2011," ad also had a link to wecanknow.com, Family Radio's End Times Web site.

(A billboard outside of Baltimore, Maryland.)
Beliefs about the end times (known as eschatology) are commonly held in Christian theology, but most Christian leaders emphasize Jesus' words in the Gospel of Matthew that "no one knows the day or hour." Camping, on the other hand, believes the date has been revealed to him through scriptural code. Still, he's gotten it wrong before. According to Christianity Today, Camping previously, (and wrongly) predicted that the rapture would occur "between September 15 and 27, 1994."
Want to check Mr. Camping's 2011 calculations? From a January 2010 SFGate.com profile of the radio evangelist, here's how he crunched the numbers:
The number 5, . . . equals "atonement." Ten is "completeness." Seventeen means "heaven." Camping patiently explained how he reached his conclusion for May 21, 2011. "Christ hung on the cross April 1, 33 A.D.," he began. "Now go to April 1 of 2011 A.D., and that's 1,978 years." Camping then multiplied 1,978 by 365.2422 days - the number of days in each solar year, not to be confused with a calendar year. Next, Camping noted that April 1 to May 21 encompasses 51 days. Add 51 to the sum of previous multiplication total, and it equals 722,500. Camping realized that (5 x 10 x 17) x (5 x 10 x 17) = 722,500. Or put into words: (Atonement x Completeness x Heaven), squared. "Five times 10 times 17 is telling you a story," Camping said. "It's the story from the time Christ made payment for your sins until you're completely saved. "I tell ya, I just about fell off my chair when I realized that," Camping said.
All this end times talk put you in the Christmas shopping spirit? Minnesota jewelry store owner Larry Falter is offering an Second Coming 50% off sale (ad below) --because nothing conveys "Jesus is Lord!" quite like "a diamond is forever."
What do you make of religious determinations of end times? Do 2011 predictions worry you? Does Camping's case compel you? Or are you more worried about crunching the numbers on our national debt than divining the date of the end of the world?

Mt 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
We must compare Scripture with Scripture to understand what God is telling us. Judgment day is May 21, 2011 and the world will end on October 21, 2011.

There's absolutely no doubt at all in my mind whether this will happen. It WILL happen, the Bible assures us of this fact.
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
In our present day, God has opened up His Word (the Bible) to reveal a great deal of truth concerning the end of time (and many other teachings). Also, in the same chapter of Daniel, it says:
Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Revelation 3:7 …These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

By God’s grace and tremendous mercy, He is giving us advanced warning as to what He is about to do. On Judgment Day, May 21st, 2011, this 5-month period of horrible torment will begin for all the inhabitants of the earth. It will be on May 21st that God will raise up all the dead that have ever died from their graves. Earthquakes will ravage the whole world as the earth will no longer conceal its dead (Isaiah 26:21). CRY FOR MERCY!

You may believe the Bible says no man can know when Judgment Day is,
but the Bible says true Christians will indeed know the time...yes, the Bible
does say that only non-Christians will be caught by surprise on Saturday
May 21, 2011---less than 10 months ---caught by the "Thief in the night".
In I Thessalonians 5:1ff the Bible says: "But of the times and seasons,
brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For [you] yourselves know
perfectly that the Day of the LORD so cometh as a Thief in the night. For
when they shall say 'Peace and safety'; then sudden destruction cometh upon
them, as travail upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape. But
ye, brethren, are not in darkness that that Day should overtake you as a
Thief. Ye are all children of the light, and children of the day: we are not
of the night, nor of darkness." see Revelation 3:3---only those who
"watch" will know the "hour" of the Lord's return [ see

How could serious people study the Bible for 2,000 years and not see this date of Sat May 21, 2011 before now? God had said He would keep such information secret, until the time of the End [see Daniel 12:4 and 9, Rev 5]. The last 2,000 years since Christ was here, was a time when God wanted
true Christians to spend all their time, money and efforts to spread His Gospel to all the world, and not be distracted by date setting.[Acts 1:6 & 7]...By God's Grace, it appears that millions around the world now understand that Christ will come on Judgment Day, Sat May 21, 2011 and Rapture His saints, and billions will likely know soon.

Time is not on our side. We have barely 9 months before May 21, 2011, that great and awful Rapture and Judgment Day comes. Proofs had been laid down in this following sites, www.familyradio.com, www.ebiblefellowship.com, www.wecanknow.com. Better check them out. It's not our business to convince people to believe, that's Gods business. We are only here to proclaim what the bible is saying. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

(Luke 21:29-32) And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
(Matthew 24:33, 34) So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, [even] at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
Notice that there's no indication in these verses, that a date will be known. God specifically indicates that when we see "these things" come to pass, then we CAN know...can know what? A date? May 21, 2011? No, that the end is near and at the doors.

Harold Camping of Family Radio is a spokesman for many who have been studying this information for many years now, each sharing, forwarding their findings to each other and to the world via many media types. Harold Camping has produced multiple free books and materials outlining these observations for all the world to critique and understand. The Biblical timeline of history revealed by God through the Bible, shows without any doubt that the Bible has been miraculously breathed directly from the mouth of God as he declared in 2Peter 1:21, and that all of time has been predetermined by His sovereign will Ecc 3:1. To CALVARY: See my post above tom and american with a brain. I've studied the KJV Bible and have seen how God's word does not support Harold Camping's teaching that we can know a date. In fact, the scriptures indicate just the opposite:
(Acts 1:7) And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
(Mattthrew 24:36) But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
(Mark 13:32, 33) But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

@Americanwithabrain; Your comment is not new to me, I have heard this request over and over again. First of all, the only things that will be valuable on May 22 2011 are water, food, and medical supplies, perhaps weapons too, to protect your 'valuable' stuff from others, any who have survived the horrendous earthquake, and are trying to live amongst the rubble and rotting corpses everyone.
Now, IF you can make your way to my house in Maryland, and IF any of my stuff is still usable, and IF any of my family members who are not saved are willing to share any of it with you, (IF any of them survive the quake) then help yourself.
I, myself, do not have any guarantee that I will be taken up in the Rapture, perhaps I will be left behind also, and may also be trying to use any of my 'stuff' that survives the enormous worldwide earthquake.
The Bible is the source of the information that leads us to the knowledge of the date of Christ's return. ANy action we take, to try to 'prove' to anyone that we believe, is a waste of time. For there is No action that I can take to make you believe the Bible. Only Holy God Himself, can give you a new, believing heart.

The problem with Harold Camping's teaching, is that his foundation is not the Bible alone. It's the Bible plus 365.2422, which is the precise number of days in a solar year. This number did not come from the Bible, it came from a secular source. Mr. Camping teaches that we can't add anything to the Bible, and yet he doesn't practice what he preaches.
(Revelation 22:18) For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

What is the Biblical pattern of Judgment?
1) Eternal God, The Lord Jesus Christ, plans a Day of Judgment. ie. Nochian Flood (4,990 BC), Sodom & Gomorrah (2068 BC)
2) The Lord REVEALS the time of destruction to His Messengers.
3) The Messengers WARN the people.
4) The people, for the most part, MOCK and SCOFF.
5) The Lord REMOVES His Messengers to safety.
6) The Lord DESTROYS EVERY SINGLE SCOFFER on the Appointed Day.
This exact sequence has occured at least 3 times: Nochain Flood, Sodom & Gomorrah, and Ninevah.
Today, the Messengers were GIVEN the Appointed Day, from the Lord opening our understanding to His Holy Word (Luke 24:45): May 21, 2011
The Messengers are warning the people. Most of the people are mocking and scoffing, soime on this very thread. We are now waiting for #'s 5 and 6.
Number 5 will occur, the Rapture, just prior to the start of the destruction, on May 21, 2011.
Number 6 is a process. It begins on May 21, 2011, and ends on Oct 21, 2011. It begins with a massive, world wide earthquake, unlike this world have ever seen before (Rev 16:18). It will topple every city on earth. This is day 1, of the 153 day Judgment Period. On the Last Day, October 21, 2011, the Lord will melt this earth (II Peter 3:10). Mankind will be destoyed without a trace, or memory. Total Annihilation.
May 21, 2011 is 42 weeks away. Your options? Read your Bible, and pray for mercy. Perhaps you too will be Raptured. The Probability of this happening: 100%. Eternal God,The Lord Jesus Christ, The King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, The Alpha and Omega, The Beginning and The End, The First and The Last (Rev 22:13), NEVER fails.
Judgment Day: May 21, 2011-Oct 21, 2011
People Entering: 6,750,000,000+
People Leaving: 0
Pattern: Nochian Flood, Sodom & Gomorrah Pattern found: Genesis 6-8:11; 18:20-19:30

Harold Camping does not preach the gospel of Christ anymore. He now says Christ's death on the Cross is not the atonement and that the atonement really happened before the foundation of the world. This is not the gospel that the apostles preached. They preached Christ crucified and risen on the third day. The Bible warns against preaching another gospel:
(1 Corinthians 2:1-5) And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching [was] not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
(1 Corinthians 1:17, 18) For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
(Romans 1:16) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
(Galatians 1:6-9) I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
(1 Corinthians 15:1-8) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
Mr. Camping no longer preaches the gospel of Christ that the apostles preached and has proven himself to be a false prophet.

Many people who grew up in the churches, are unprepared to learn the world is about to come to an end in 9+ months. Their trust is in their church, and in the teachings they have grown up with over the years, and NOT in the Bible alone. We know from several verses in the Bible, that the Lord had HIDDEN End-Time information in the Bible. For example:
Daniel 12:4 "But thou, O Daniel, SHUT UP THE WORDS, AND SEAL THE BOOK, EVEN TO THE TIME OF THE END: many shall run to and fro, and KNOWLEDGE SHALL BE INCREASED."
We read in Revelation 5-8:1, that the Lord removed the 7 seals from the Bible. Because these seals are OFF the Bible, we know this happened on May 21, 1988.
Rev 8:1 "And when HE HAD OPENED THE SEVENTH SEAL, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour."
In other words, the church folks, over 2+ billion people in the world, should have been expecting INCREASED KNOWLEDGE at the time of the End. After all, they have the Bible in their hands. Perhaps for decades. This event should have come as no suprise.
Yet, that is exactly how thy act!! They act surprized that KNOWLEDGE HAS INCREASED, just as the Lord prophesied it would! They cling to 2,000 yr old doctrine they grew up on, and refuse to accept that the times have changed. However, this is all part of the Lord's grand plan.
The Lord is using this INCREASED KNOWLEDGE to divide Christianity into two groups. The Wheat (True Believers) and the tares/weeds (counterfiet christians, that do NOT belong to the Lord). During the Church Age (0033-1988), the churches bought in both the True Believers, but also bought in those who offend. Those who are imposters. Those who must be removed from the Lords PURE FLOCK OF SAINTS.
The Lord needs to seperate the Wheat, from the weeds (Matthew 13), so that at the Harvest (the Rapture, on May 21, 2011), the WEEDS WILL BE LEFT BEHIND TO BE BURNED. The weeds represent MOST of Christianity. The Lord is using these 'new' Biblical doctrines to sift people. Those that refuse to LISTEN to God's Word, and cling to understandings from years gone by, demonstrate they are church weeds.
Thus, many in so called Christian circles scoff and mock at God's Word in these Last Days. Not even realizing that by doing so they condemn themselves. I encourage folks to read their Bibles, and pray for mercy, as we approach the final 42 weeks of life as we know it. Beware the mockers & scoffers. The Bible tells us they ALWAYS end up DEAD!!

i'm no bible scholar, but it seems to me that to claim to absolutely KNOW the date of the second coming of Christ is both arrogant and foolish. i don't think that men can predict such things, when they can't even predict what will happen tomorrow (james 4:13-15). in his heart a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps (prov. 16:9). God chooses to keep some things hidden and maybe instead of spending your time and efforts so desperately trying to guess the hidden things we should all just be diligent in being faithful to the things that already have been revealed. some of the preceding comments are a little scary in that they seem to equate belief in this whole "may 21st" thing with actual belief in Jesus. they are not the same thing, and it is absolutely possible to not expect 5/21/11 to be the end of the world, while still also believing with your whole heart that Jesus Christ is Lord. don't get it twisted and be roped in by what a man says. guess what: men have been wrong before. i'll put my faith in God and not men. so unless Jesus himself says it I think I'll wait to reserve judgment or opinion, thank-you-very-much.

Okay, this is a bit problematic... I'm scheduled to stay with friends in Australia during that time. Right now at about 2:PM Thursday here, it's already 6 AM Friday there... What time zone is this date prediction based on? Will the sinful Australians get whacked before the morally bankrupt Californians or will it actually be the 22nd there when things go sour?
BTW, there was no such thing as AD (or CE) as in '2011 AD', when the Bible and its prophets were writing... what date did they put on their checks back then? Did they know that the current calendar year markers missed Jesus' birthday by a couple of years? I mean if a fairly prominent date in the past is off on today's calendars, how reliable can a 2000 year old prediction be? then there's that whole leap year problem that wasn't accounted for (or known about) until the 16th century.. was that factored in?
BTW:
Oct 02, 0007 BC-Christ was born

Are you saying that Jesus was 40 when he died?

The sad thing is how many of the people who believe this will just pick a new date when it doesn't happen.

Its funny how people emphasize that "no one knows the hour, date, or month" quote, but leave off the rest of it, where Jesus says that the end of the world would come before the apostles died.
Jesus was an apocalyptic prophet... in some respects the people that keep on making new dates for the end are closer to the biblical Jesus than the rest, who don't abandon all their goods to worship Jesus, and continue to stockpile goods and wealth in the world for tomorrow instead of stockpiling spiritual treasures. In the long run, the constant doom saying is a losers game though, which is why Christianity moved on. You can only scare people so many times before they realize the claims are full of it.

I wonder what sort of deity would want worship from humans that is motivated only by fear. Billboards such as this reduce religious faith to a simple matter of allegiance "or else."
The Slacktivist blog has an ongoing critique of the mindset behind billboards such as this, as reflected in the Left Behind novel series. The blogger, an evangelical Christian, argues that the books aren't about convincing non-Christians to change their ways before its too late. Instead, he says they're about pandering to the self-righteousness of people who already believed they'll be Raptured, presenting other beliefs and the people who hold them in the worst possible light. Billboards such as this are really tools of self-gratification for Camping and his followers. The Allison Warden quote might as well have ended with, "We're going to watch from Heaven and laugh our asses off as everyone else writhes in agony - they will get what they deserved for mocking us."

Yes! I bet One-Hundred-Trillion dollars that the rapture will not happen on May 21 2011.

DILTD, while I appreciate your joke, the idea of a wager on the Rapture misses the point. The Rapture is found nowhere in Revelation. The idea is based on a recent interpretation of a comment attributed to Paul in 1 Thessalonians. The blogger I mentioned repeatedly states that the Rapture is not part of mainstream Christian theology. In fact, he uses the term "bad theology" to describe the underlying fundamentalism and scriptural literalism.

We must all compare the Word with what the Father has revealed and then wait upon His guidance. It is always a large command to wait on the Father for His confirmation.
However, the World will be destroyed as He has promised. The judgment has already occurred. The only judgment left is for the wicked. All of His were formerly judged at the stake outside of Yerushalayim. Ha Mashiach from the foundation completed the plan, then executes it.
As Noach was chosen and found grace so it shall be for His people. No fear, you shall have grace.
Proverbs 3:5 & 6
But, there will be some that will go though suffering and loss before the return. He prepares His Bride. Remember the betrothal document, the Ten Commandments. That was for the Bride.
That identifies the Bride. Remember His Word, it is non-negotiable.
What is known now, was known then by His people. Restoration is soon, watch and wait. Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.
